Had a great time at the Luxor Hotel
Paul Nov 28, 2009
Stayed at the Luxor during Thanksgiving week 2009. Had a great time. Staff was friendly. Room was clean and quiet. ... Restaurants, clubs, and shows were great. Casino was fun. I stayed in the Pyramid which was cool. The view of the city was fantastic especially at night. The hotel is on the south end of the strip which is less congested. A short 15 min walk up LV Blvd lands you at the center of the strip near the Bellagio and Caesars Palace. The Luxor is also connected to Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur.

The Luxor hotel is in need of an internal makeover. Old fixtures need updating, and the bedrooms are in need of decoration. ... That said the Spa rooms (we have stayed twice - 08 & 09) are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The Spa bath itself is very relaxing and well worth the extra charge. The casino has been modernised, but the tables are now too close together. The big problem in our Nov 2009 visit was the timeshare salesmen offering cheap tickets to shows etc. They were relentless often to the point of being rude. These salesmen were in the following hotels - Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur. We did not see them in any of the other hotels. That said the Luxor was much cheaper that the other strip hotels that were near the hub of the action and you can always use the other hotels.

Hotel showing it's age......
Phlustered Pharaoh Nov 27, 2009
Having read previous warnings about the Luxor, we were concerned in advance... It's all true; this now 16-year old hotel has ... gotten all it can out of the original furnishings, wallpaper and carpet, and really caters to the 20-something party crowd at the expense of seasoned travellers. We didn't dare try the restaurants based on reviews, but can say the $12.48 daily "resort fee" was an insult for a USA Today, bottled water that never was delivered after the first day, and phone calls. Manager on duty was very helpful in changing our room from the assigned main-floor room with a view of nothing and a dead jacuzzi, to a 13th floor (yes, there IS one....) strip-front room with a view of the airport and the Tropicana. Bed was well past replacement time but we slept well.

You have got to read this before staying
Vance Nov 24, 2009
Our stay at the Luxor was ok. When we 1st arrived, the room was a huge disappointment. The bed was concave as if a hippo ... had slept on it. Luxurious my butt. The bathroom had blackmold in the grout and ceiling. Had to beg for it to be removed. However, the cleaning staff got right to it and did a good job. The dining was magnificient. You must try "Tender" the steakhouse. We had our 20th anniv. dinner there and was blown away by the food and the staff. Amazing. Same can be said for the Cathouse, the Cafe, and Tacos and Tequila. The hotel staff overall was polite and accomodating. The concierge was topnotch. As with any casino, the floor was smoky but a great time. We also got into LAX which is one of the premier nightclubs on the strip and had a blast. Be ready to spend a ton of money on drinks there ($28 for a beer and 2 rum/cokes). If you want to sit, you have to order/reserve table service starting at $300. Overall though the DJ was awesome and we had a great time. In location, the hotel is on the far end of the strip and walking is ok for a day or two, afterthat I found myself wishing I had stayed center strip to be more convienent to the entire strip. Luxor has the potential to be an awesome hotel again with a simple room update with "Luxurious" beds, new carpet and some paint.

You have got to see Zumanity by Cirque du Soleil at New York-New York. Its 2 hotels away and is probably the hottest show on the strip. Get seats right up front for crowd participation, you won't be disappointed.

Not a 4-Star Hotel
Fluoride Mind Control Nov 22, 2009
I am going to say up-front, that had this hotel been listed in the same category as the Circus-Circus for example my review ... would have been a little bit more favorable. This is NOT a 4-star hotel, and in my opinon barely qualifies as a 3-star. The reservation to the Luxor was made at literally the last second. My layover in Las Vegas was cancelled, so I needed to find a hotel for the night. I typically stay at more business oriented hotels (i.e. Hilton Garden, Sheraton etc.), but did not foresee doing much work. My main concern was to be close to the airport for an early morning flight. I decided to go for this hotel because it was a) close to the airport, and b) a 4-star hotel. My issues with the hotel are as follows: 1) The beds are VERY low quality (think Motel 6). This was the most uncomfortable nights sleep I have had in a long time, and I travel a lot. 2) The hotel seems like it is falling apart. Whole chunks of the ceiling are falling down, the elevators shake (it feels as if the whole front is going to come off), the room air system gives off an odd oder, the furniture is really showing its age. 3) Everything is way overpriced (food, coffee, drinks, etc.). Room service is really over-priced for room service. This may be expected for a casino, but the Luxor is relatively isolated from anything else, and if you don't have a car you are kind of stuck. 4) There are tons of hidden fees! Resort fees, daily internet fees, etc. 5) The rooms are noisy (I thought someone was taking a shower in my room with the bathroom door open) and lacks even a small work desk. Don't think of going there and getting any work done. 6) Minor point but: not kid friendly (impossible to avoid the imagery of the sin in Sin-City).
