With its colored castle turrets, Dungeon arcade room and courtyard pool, the Excalibur Hotel Casino from MGM Resorts International hits all the right notes with the kids. It's also equally popular with the casino crowd, with over 100,000-square-feet of card tables and slot machine action. This Las Vegas hotel packs in the Medieval references guests might expect from the name -from shopping at unique souvenir stores like Dragon's Lair, to the dramatic evening dinner show Tournament of Kings, which recreates the jousting battles of old England. You can even dine in the Steakhouse at Camelot for time-travel kicks with thick-cuts of beef, but if you're after something a little more global, try the generous portion sizes at Italian Buca di Beppo.

Neighborhood
Located right on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, it's easy to take a tram or walk to other nearby casino-hotels from the Excalibur. Shows like the Blue Man Group at Monte Carlo Theater should not be missed by those seeking something truly unique and large-scale. Wishing to put some serious miles on that credit card during your vacation? Head south along the Boulevard for the posh Shoppes at Mandalay Place before cooling your heels at the Minus5 Ice Lounge.
Hints and tips
If you want to see the Las Vegas "that was," cross over to Fremont Street. Lacking the sheen of the "new Vegas," this area has a distinct charm in its mid-20th Century neon signs, like the Golden Nugget Gambling Hall. Keen-eyed visitors may spot a few locations from the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever.

No value for the money

Was upgraded one step to room with a coffee table at no charge which was nice. The room itself was no value for the money; have stayed at better motels. The air conditioner was real noisy, the safe did not work, the exhaust fan in the batheroom was broken, the list went on. Took 2 calls to get safe fixed and it still wasnt' fixed so I gave up. Noisy rooms especially when the staff is hammering and drilling at 9 am. Walls are paper thin so if you have noisy neighbors or they have loud children expect to be up early.

It was good for the price!

My only problem was that I was promised a $20 or $25 dollar credit (I forget the exact amount) for the hotel I stayed at by Orbitz but was not given by the hotel, nor did the hotel have any knowledge of it. That was the only problem I had since it was promised by Orbitz during the purchase of the room online.

Buy an all day bus pass for $7 if you want to see all the Strip and Old Town. It is very far to walk to see all the hotel/resorts.

Enjoyed the stay, but had to change room

I really liked the hotel, had everything we wanted. In fact, the only thing we didn't like was having to go back to the registration desk after a long flight and request another room. The first room smelled awful, was dark and looked into an alley. Fortunately though the window was so filthy that you really couldn't see out much. The second room was bright, overlooked the pool and was very clean. Everything after that was wonderful and we enjoyed the stay. Had ever ammenity you could ask for and more. I would consider staying there again but not on the first floor!

Disappointing Honeymoon
Kansas

Looks are not everything

First room was trashed. We got reassigned to a different room. Everyday the electricity would go off several times and would be off for a 1/2 hour at a time. Called guest services every time this occurred. After electricity was turned back on, we never got an explanation as to why it happened. Never got offerred a different room or other accommodations. When I asked if we could be comp'd for anything due to the lack of quality they said "No, we can't comp you for anything. You pre-paid on Orbitz. We won't lose any money by you not coming back." I was very upset. The hotel and casino are beautiful and the Tournament of Kings show was neat but the rooms and customer service is absolutely horrible.

Skip out on getting free tickets or free slot play. You have to go through a time share presentation. They tell you the presentation is only 2 hours long. It's actually 3 1/2 hours long. Don't waste your time.
