With its colored castle turrets, Dungeon arcade room and courtyard pool, the Excalibur Hotel Casino from MGM Resorts International hits all the right notes with the kids. It's also equally popular with the casino crowd, with over 100,000-square-feet of card tables and slot machine action. This Las Vegas hotel packs in the Medieval references guests might expect from the name -from shopping at unique souvenir stores like Dragon's Lair, to the dramatic evening dinner show Tournament of Kings, which recreates the jousting battles of old England. You can even dine in the Steakhouse at Camelot for time-travel kicks with thick-cuts of beef, but if you're after something a little more global, try the generous portion sizes at Italian Buca di Beppo.

Neighborhood
Located right on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, it's easy to take a tram or walk to other nearby casino-hotels from the Excalibur. Shows like the Blue Man Group at Monte Carlo Theater should not be missed by those seeking something truly unique and large-scale. Wishing to put some serious miles on that credit card during your vacation? Head south along the Boulevard for the posh Shoppes at Mandalay Place before cooling your heels at the Minus5 Ice Lounge.
Hints and tips
If you want to see the Las Vegas "that was," cross over to Fremont Street. Lacking the sheen of the "new Vegas," this area has a distinct charm in its mid-20th Century neon signs, like the Golden Nugget Gambling Hall. Keen-eyed visitors may spot a few locations from the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever.

Pool, Food and Staff problems

We will start with the pool problems. First day we arrived there we found the pool closed due to the fact that the wind was blowing. They said it should be opened the next day and that they were opened to 7 o'clock. We arrived the next day and found out the largest and nicest pool was closed. This pool was closed the whole time we stayed there (4 days) As we were leaving that afternoon we found out that they had a kid's slide. The next day we show up at 6:00 to find that the pool with the slide closes at 6 every night. A fact that we were not informed of when we asked the first day. Grand son never did get to slide down the slide. To top it off...they closed the one pool that was open at 6:48 and not 7:00. When I asked about this the staff was very rude and I was told to come back the next day. 2nd Issue: Buffet...DO NOT PURCHASE...I have been eating buffets my whole life and I do not remember a worse one. Over the years I have ate at over 20 buffets in Vegas, Kings Table, Sir Georges, Barnyards, Furrs, Golden Corral, and a host of others and can't remember one worse. Poor selection of food and often the food seemed to have been sitting out there for hours...it was cold or stiff, etc. Only thing I could recommend was the Chocolate Lava Dessert...it was good, but not worth the price. Staff in this area were nice and helpful, but eat somewhere else. Third: outside the staff at the buffet and the business center...all others seemed Rude...even those at registration and a member's services. Fourth: had 4 people staying in room and constantly only got 3 towels...every single day I had to ask for additional towels. Rooms, cleanliness, size of the rooms were about what you would find in a 1 or 2 star hotel and NOT a resort that is charging you a RESORT fee. Didn't even have wireless in the rooms. Recommend you look else where.

Ideal location and close to the airport

Positives: Clean room and comfortable sleep with no noise from neighbouring rooms. Access to nearby hotels was convenient. Airport shuttle service was prompt and timely. Negatives: Bathroom sink seemed to be plugged and water not flowing good. Room safety lock did not work so we did not use it. I could not use room internet as I only took ipad, thinking the internet would be wireless throughout. I was able to connect to internet in the lobby area but not always, sometimes it never connected. Using internet in the lobby area was uncomfortable as everywhere there is too much smokey odour from cigarette smokers. we paid daily service access fee of about $20 but don't know how we took advantage as we did not use the pool ( one pool was under maintenance). Those time share people hassle you a lot

Disappointed

We have stayed at the Excalibur before. In the past, we were pretty pleased with our stay. This time, our room was filthy. The wallpaper was coming off the wall. The blankets on our bed were visibly dirty, and there was gum on the floor. Now, we didn't expect a five star experience for what we paid, but we did expect cleaner, better quality rooms.

Quick Overnight Stay

I took the entire family to Vegas for a quick overnight trip from So Cal. Booked our hotel on the way and only paid $109 +tax. Negatives: The rooms were fairly small, but we didn't spend much time there. Fairly average hotel quality. No one seemed happy on the casino floor, and there was little excitement, even in the prime hours (10pm-2am). Casino table dancers start at 6pm, which is early for a more kid friendly resort, but it is Vegas...Positives: Pool was great, with DJ playing hip hop/pop music that everyone could enjoy. Pool drinks were great and at a great price. Arcade downstairs was perfect for entertaining kids. Great location on the strip with easy access to South Las Vegas Strip resorts. Lots of inexpensive dinner options that are kid friendly. If you are looking for more fancier options, you may have to go elsewhere. Overall, great experience and would definitely stay again if I was on a weekend trip.

Great place

Room Service and Housekeeping staff are very friendly and will do that little extra to make your experience better. Being near the MGM made it so taking the monorail further up the strip was easy and convenient. Great Buffet and plenty of slots and tables for the gamblers. Castle theme was really great and well done. Had a great trip to Vegas and would stay here again.

You get what you pay for

When checking in we requested a non smoking room, which was given to as. As we entered our room the smell of smoke over took you. I get it's Vegas, smoke is everywhere, however I look forward to a break from the smoke in my room. We notified the front desk and eventually they ended up moving us. It was just an inconvenience having to pack up all your stuff, wait in the registration line again, etc. The hotel was just alright.

Excellent stay

We had a great time staying at the Excaliber. We were happy with our room and the location was perfect for us. The staff was all very courteous and helpful and we had a fabulous time. It's great having the food court and several restaurants easily accessible in the hotel and the tram was a life saver.

Inexpensive and good

Was the least expensive hotel I could find on the strip and was in the middle of everything along with the least expensive food options. Was easy to traverse to the other casinos but had a great casino and kid's arcade as well.

Vegas getaway

Hotel was close to everything, but room view was ridiculous got to look at back of another building, toilet ran every 5 min, got offered more towels as compensation, and having to pay resort fee at check in was very strange usually it's done at check out, so probably won't stay there again :(
