Overview

El Cortez Hotel and Casino allows you to enjoy the historic Downtown area of the city at affordable rates. Although the hotel has been open since 1941, the longest continually operating gambling hall in town, they've gone through renovations to modernize their rooms with contemporary furniture and present-day amenities such as electronic device docking stations and plasma televisions. If you prefer the classic Las Vegas feel, they offer vintage rooms above the casino floor adorned in the decor of former owner and mob boss Bugsy Siegel's era. Inside the casino, be sure to join Club Cortez to receive free play, up to 75 percent in discounts and with enough points you may even earn a complimentary room.

You can find plenty of entertainment and fun within walking distance in the forms of Fremont Street Experience, which boasts a 1,500-foot long zip line, and Fremont East, a trendy area of town lined with popular nightclubs, coffee shops and art galleries. Downtown Las Vegas is brimming with excitement. This entertainment district regularly hosts free outdoor concerts, community festivals and holiday celebrations. At night, Fremont Street is lit up by the Viva Vision Light Show, a 550,000-watt high-resolution screen suspended 90 feet above ground and powered by 12.5 million LED lamps. One night stand

Would recommend Sat, Dec 19, 2015
I book this room because our company had a holiday party across the street. I knew there would be alcohol served so better safe than sorry. The location and price it was definitely worth it ,everything was in walking distance. If you're looking for a young hip hotel, you may want to stay at one of the cooler resorts Cosmopolitan, Wynn, Aria and so on.

Good location, clean room, good price. Lots of smoke in the lobby. Is a convenient location for Fremont Street. Has parking. Is an old style casino, nothing fancy.

Below my expectations.

The shower would not drain, internet did not work, tv did not work, safe would not lock, and I was repeatedly woke up by emergency vehicles and gunshots so close that they echoed in the room with the windows closed. They refunded the resort fee for the Internet not working, but it has been 5 days and i have not received it nor the refundable deposit.

Never again

Would not recommend Sat, Nov 14, 2015
I did not like that when we went up the elevator to our room, it came out into an open air balcony that led to our room. It was a very cold, far and kind of scary walk to our room. Didn't feel warm and safe like you would walking in a hallway to your room of a normal hotel. Inside the bathroom looked very old fashioned and not updated. The casino machines were mostly vidoeo poker and not too many of your favorites you would find at other casinos. First time and probably our last time. Sorry El Cortez.

Good Casino Hotel

Would recommend Tue, Oct 13, 2015
I love the El Cortez, ive stayed here a few times in the vintage rooms, remember there are no elevators for vintage rooms. This time around I decided to stay in the Tower Rooms which I was amazed how nice it was. For the people that complain about the smoke in the casino, get a life. It's a casino its suppose to smell like smoke and that's part of the mystic of this casino and I'm a non smoker. So if your going to complain then you shouldn't even be in Vegas.

Bedbugs, Bad Manager Ruined Our Trip!

Would not recommend Sun, Oct 11, 2015
We checked in really late. 2:00 AM We were exhausted and went right to bed. Later my Wife noticed a bedbug crawling on the bathroom floor. She caught it and placed it in a empty water bottle. On travels my wife is terrified of bringing bedbugs back into our home. She was stressed and hardly slept. The next morning we noticed that we both had several fresh insect bites. Later the next day we showed the manager the bedbug. He changed us to a different room and said he would see about refunding our money and giving us $40 in restaurant credit. He seemed sincere. That night was good but all the stress gave my wife a terrible headache. The next day a different manager was on duty. I requested a late checkout so my wife could rest a little longer before we headed home. She denied us and said that she could not refund our room because we did not book through the hotel. She negotiated our restaurant credit down to $25 so we could have the late checkout and they didn't charge us room taxes. I didn't argue just because it was so absurd. When we arrived home we had to undress on the porch and everything we brought with us is in trash bags in the backyard until we figure out how to deal with this. Apparently this hotel is not as concerned about bedbug infestations like we are! Never Again!

Great Spot in Old Downtown LV

Would recommend Thu, Oct 1, 2015
This is a great little hotel right in the middle of all the cool stuff along Fremont Street. A definite top choice for staying in the old downtown area. The only downside I really had was that the WiFi in the room was terrible - I typically need to do work while traveling and working was completely impossible (that said, I was there on a particularly busy weekend during Life is Beautiful Festival, so it could have just been that the network was particularly overloaded and this isn't an issue at all times.) But past the issues with the internet, everything else was perfect.
