This hotel is aged and ...

This hotel is aged and has a great history but in dire need of an uplift. While it had the most basic of personal needs covered with an in-room ironing board, hairdryer and tiny coffee maker, the linens had holes in them and were paper thin and ancient to say the least and I think a TV upgrade from the 80's might be in order.

Extremely disappointing

We chose Cal Neva based on The Insiders Guide to Reno/Lake Tahoe which suggested the hotel captured the romance of the Rat Pack era, playing on its former owner, Frank Sinatra. Instead, the facility was simply ratty. The odor of stale beer and cigarettes from the casino permiated the entire hotel. The room was dingy & dirty, linens were thread-bare, the drapes had holes, the bed was long past the time for donation to an area shelter (we found a tag with purchase date of 12/98), and the accommodations in general were dated at best. We found none of the romantic settings suggested in the book. While the staff was acceptable and friendly, nothing could overcome the overall impression. We checked out after one night despite the cancellation penalty. I would not go back, and would not recommend it to anyone -- not even my husband's ex-wife!

There is a lovely spa resort just a few miles away -- the Hyatt Regency at Incline Village.

OVERPRICED

This hotel is very old. The room was filthy and literally falling apart. If you decide to stay here, make sure you bring food for your room. They don't have any roomservice. The truly only thing that you pay for is the view of Lake Tahoe.

Caution to the weary traveller

Stayed at CalNeva for 3 days, 2 nights. No hot water in the sink the whole time. Hot water in the shower was very intermittant. When I complained, they sent an engineer to my room who said they would try to get it fixed in the next couple of days. Did me a lot of good. Housekeeping not very good. Hotel staff was perfunctory. I would not stay here again.

Never again!

Horrible hotel! The only nice thing about the hotel is their sign outside. The inside is very unattractive. Our room had a horrible smell. The heater will heat up your room but if you have allergies or asthma be prepared to deal with stuffy nose or breathing problems! The vents are either not filtered or cleaned! The only reason we stayed at this hotel was because we needed to be close to incline village but next time I would rather drive a little further or spend more money to stay at a nicer hotel. This place is awful and waste of money. The wall paper was also coming off the walls and our room had some green stuff smeared on the walls. Nothing worked. I tried ironing the next morning and all the iron did was leak water all over my clothes! Do not stay at this hotel!

DON'T STAY THERE

At check- in, I was told by a redhead snootie women that there where no smoking rooms and if I was caught smoking in my room, I would be "fined $150.00 dollars" and be kicked out of the hotel. When I called the hotel to confrim my room and such, no mention that there were no smoking rooms. The room was nasty. There were what looked like coffee and coke stains everywhere on the carpet, along with what looked like syrup stains. I wouldn"t walk on it in my socks. The furniture was worn and tattered, the air filter looked like it was from last year. The grout in the tile had mold. I called Orbitz, spoke to Sabastian and he took care of everything. We were moved to a cleaner much nicer room. The room we paid for.

Need to call for Hot Water and be weary of Concerts until 4am

Lower floor rooms require that you call 5 minutes ahead if you want to take a hot shower. They allow people to have dogs in their rooms. Peeling wall paper in the bathroom, sheets were patched to fix cigarette burns, bed cover and furnishings were all from the 70s or 80s, last night of stay there was a concert on the main level that went to 4am. Concert goers could be heard loitering outside room window. Spa was broken, pool closed for season, casino is all computerized including the blackjack table.
