First time in this hotel

First, the staff was great. They were exceedingly friendly and helpful. This is a casino so you have gambling below, full bar and café open 24/7. The hotel was built in 1929 and the room sizes reflect that. The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms very small. The bed and dressers are full sized wood. The bed frame is quite nice. My room was at the front so I had light from across the street coming in. With my size the toilet was unusable due to the cramped nature of it (no room on either side). There is a very strong perfumed smell which I assume is due to the fact that smoking is occurring downstairs (and the age of the hotel). I would stay here again, but only if travelling alone and only for 1 night. If it was more than 1 night I'd need a different room. My wife would hate it staying at this hotel I think.

My 2nd stay

In my first stay I reviewed that the bathroom was so cramped it was unusable by a guy my size. But this toilet was positioned so it was fully usable. There were not very many outlets though. I had to plug my phone into the bathroom to charge. This room I was also facing front and the light from the casino across the street came through. But I sleep with a CPAP machine and smother my face with a pillow making it dark. The staff was great. They were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Quick Trip

My husband and I stayed in Ely on our way to Vegas. The hotel was pretty average. We really liked how old it was though, it seemed straight out of a scary movie! The room was comfortable and clean. I would stay there again if I needed to stay in Ely. Not much going on in that town though.

Pick a different place... This Aint it!

I booked because of rate and location. But it needs a lot of attention. To start the hotel is run down and yes I know its a monument style hotel. Rooms are very small, locks on doors are not secure, light comes in thru drapes from outside neon lights and water temp should shut the place down. When you book room it doesnt mention that water temp is not regulated because of old pipes. Literally several warning signs and basically states you take a shower at your own risk because they cant regulate temp. So one minute its warm, freezing cold than scolding hot.. Its dangerous and stupid all wrapped up in one. Daytime staff was nice but eve staff was rude and not courteous. Theres a Ramada down the street and I will head there next time. Also food at the restaurant was terrible...

30 days on the road

On a cross-country trip we stayed here and loved it. The only thing we didn't love was all the smokers. But once we got through the lobby where the casino was, things were great. The room really exceeded our expectations. The restaurant was fine and smoke-free. We'll stay again if we're through Ely again.

Don't order the chicken-fried steak unless you're hungry. It's huge, but good.

escaping from the heat

We had traveled to get away from the heat, see Lehman Caves and to enjoy a small town 4th of July. Our location was perfect as the parade passed right in front of the hotel. We also attended the special BBQ and train ride event being held. Our host on the train was knowledgeable with the history as we passed by the different mining areas. We ended the ride with a fireworks display near the golf course. The next day we left for the Lehman Caves which were incredible - 50 degrees year round. We are already planning more trips for the various special events they hold for the train rides ranging from a chocolate train ride to the Halloween ride - which my 13 year old is excited about. Lots of history and a small quiet town was a perfect weekend/holiday getaway.
