Think Twice

I've stayed in worse places. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself needs some work. The mattress was well worn and was uncomfortable for me. The water lines for the sink were reversed so that your cold water was hot. The bathroom was small with mold and cracked grout at the tub surround. It is close to downtown and you can visit restaurants and casinos by foot. I wasn't in town for pleasure so I didn't spend much time sightseeing or playing.

Great for the money

I wandered into Carson City not expecting much, and as it was the off-season I found this place as it was only $30 a night. That said, you're gonna get what you pay for. All I needed was a bed, a shower, and I got precisely that. The only complaint is that the staff first gave me a key to a room that had *not* been cleaned (trash full, no toilet paper, beds unmade). I complained and got another room that was made up. Again, as it was the cold off-season, the maid only comes a few times a week. I was glad that they gave me a new room. Again, it's an economy stay. If I find myself in Carson City again, I'll stay there as I typically travel alone. No complaints other than them inadvertently giving me an unmade room.

Motel-don't expect much

Fairly clean.....lean on the amenities provided. Help wasn't exactly overly friendly. Toilet needs repair - took a minute of holding down the handle before it would empty. Basically an old motel with no services. You get what you pay for - but, I would of at least liked a hand towel! On the plus side, it was inexpensive and fairly quiet.

Good Room for the Price

No problem with my stay. The outside is not impressive but the rooms are okay. Notes: - Internet worked - Need a key to access ice machine - No shampoo, two small bars of soap - Old fashion key, office does not open until 7 am, leave key in room if leaving early. - Shower hot/cold oscillated, took a minute for any hot H20 - Cups provided small Styrofoam, I would not use them - Inside room was better than I expected based on the outside appearance - There are multiple other hotels that have the name Nugget, this is the last of those hotels - Hotel okay for a guy passing through (me), maybe not for a family with small kids

A step above camping in a tent

The Good: Cheap! (we paid only $44/night with tax). There was a microwave and a refrigerator with a tiny freezer compartment. The room was reasonably clean and non-smoking rooms were available. The hotel is centrally located with good eateries just blocks away. The Bad: The flat screen TV was only about 17" in diameter (I have never seen one so small). The hard pillows were better suited for use as TV trays than sleeping, and two of the four provided were in a rubber-coated pillow case that was stiff and crinkled loudly when you moved. The bed was only slightly softer than a box spring (without the matress). Just a step above sleeping on the ground. No hair drier, no coffee machine, no shampoo or lotions of any kind. No facial tissue, no extra rolls of TP. Towels were very rough and thin. All the smoking rooms faced the quiet residential area, but all the nonsmoking rooms faced the busy street (which had traffic all day and night) and a church that chimed bells every half hour throughout the day. The heater/air conditioner was very loud when it was on, and was placed inches from one of the two beds in the room so the occupant received a blast of air whenever the unit cycled on (which it did every few minutes). This might have been because there was a large gap between the entry door and jam that let cold air (and noise) in constantly. We took bets every time we flushed the toilet as to whether or not it would flush properly, and we each only braved one shower because the water kept changing from ice cold to scalding hot every few seconds. Despite all this, the bigggest disappointment was the staff. The hotel claims to have "the friendliest staff in Carson City", and if that is so, I would hate to meet any of the other hotels' staff! The Nugget Hotel staff never smiled, never offered any information, and never seemed the least bit interested in helping you. They were disorganized and indifferent at best. When we checked in, it took them five minutes to find a room key for us (they were all in a pile under the desk). Though the nonsmoking side of the building was nearly empty, they placed the only other tenent right next to our room so we got to share a wall. Later that evening we had to plunge our own toilet when it stopped up because the "maintenance guy" had gone home. Staff begrudgingly brought up the plunger, then waited outside the door while we did the work. The next day, we had to beg the front desk to open the office door 10 minutes early to give us more toilet paper. When they realized ignoring my knocks would not work (they were actually standing inside at the front desk getting ready to open when I knocked), they begrudgingly opened up and made sure I knew it was an imposition to get the TP as they were not open yet. I appologized and asked for the TP again and kept standing there, so they finally turned around (leaving me outside in the cold) and brought me one role of TP. I will not go back, and would have left after the first night had they not required payments for both nights up front. However, it you are a heavy sleeper that loves hard beds and pillows, does not need to take a shower and desperately needs a cheap place to stay, you may be fine here.

Would not recommend

I like cheap hotels that are convenient, which this one is, but I will not stay there again. Old soap left in the shower and at the sink, blood on one of the towels and smeared on the wall by the light switch and when we asked for replacement towels we were told that the hotel does not give extra towels. Other than that the hotel felt safe and was comfortable enough, but I couldn't help but to wonder what kind of nasty I was not seeing.

Cheap room, cheap price

Hotel felt safe and was inexpensive. The hotel could have been cleaner. The room has a fridge and a microwave free coffee was available in the main office. Room wasn't really dirty, but the carpet was old and needed to be replaced. The shower was not very clean and shampoo and conditioner were not in the room. If you are a picky person you would not like to stay here! I only stayed because my wife was not with us and there was a shortage of rooms in the area due to a large car show in Reno.
