Immaculately designed and decorated!
travelmex Oct 14, 2009
Visiting Taos and driving around for scenery. Expansive property, but need more lighting at night to find our building. Not ... easy to find the way around when we first arrived, and met others who had the same problem. Two pools, one steep, one shallow, but too small to actually swim in although they're both beautiful. A perfect setting for a relaxing vacation. Rooms are more thoughtfully designed and decorated than the rest we've been in other vacations.

Service not so great in areas
upset traveler Oct 12, 2009
I attented a wedding at El Monte Sagrado. The grounds were beautiful. The valets were great. We were given a handicapped ... room with no tub. We were charged more than the [...] advertised price. We were charged parking when we didn't have a car there. One evening the wedding party all gathered at the bar when they had a DJ. The record skipped and everyone jokingly said...AHHHHH. The DJ got mad and started yelling at my husband that if he could do a better job then get off his[*] that he'd been sitting on all night and do it himself OVER THE MIC. When we complained to the bartender she yelled at us. They were all friends. When asked to speak to management the "head chief" appearded in shorts and a t-shirt who had been partying all night with the DJ. They were so rude. I went back the next night and the same bartender would not wait on me and asked someone else to do it. When you are paying 200.00 a night you'd expect common decency.

Beautiful, tranquil spot
Shmueli Oct 11, 2009
The resort is quiet, beautiful and comfortable. We found it to be relaxing and just enjoyed it there. The grounds and views ... are incredible. The restaurant was great. The rooms are stunning with all sorts of special decor touches. Housekeepping staff pay attention to detail. My only complaint -- I thought for a place charging their rates, they could throw in parking and the resort fee. It seemed a bit extortionary to tag those on to the bill.

What a wonderful place. Water features all over the grounds, a gardener's paradise, each room private and quiet. The room was ... excellent and the bathroom beautiful with the tile and stone. We loved the grounds so much that we spent one whole day and never left as it was the most beautiful place in Taos. I suugest this hotel to anyone- you cannot be disappointed!

Relaxing Getaway
Needed a Relaxing Trip Aug 12, 2009
Had a great time. The location is near lots of stuff to do - from easy-going walks and shopping to hard core rafting. ... Mostly took it easy though and enjoyed the beautiful setting. Property is not too large, but has lots of wonderful nooks and crannies to walk through. Staff is pleasant. Service is good and under-stated - they don't get in your way, but seem to get it all done.

All surface looks, No substance
jcs8192 Aug 6, 2009
This hotel was all glitz and no substance. The architecture is striking, especially in the lobby area, and the grounds are ... pretty. However, the construction is poor, the soundproofing between rooms is non-existent, and the room design and layout is poor. The only positive thing I can say about the room is that the beds and linens are comfortable. The bathroom in our unit was the worst-designed hotel bathroom I have ever encountered in the USA -- there were no towel bars accessible from the sink or shower area, the shower door had a large gap at the base that allowed water to cover the bathroom floor and flow down-slope to pool in front of the room door, the sink had no way to close the basin, nor an aerator on the faucet. There was no bathroom door, only a door for the toilet area. In-room lighting was very dim. There were very few electrical outlets, and only one was accessible without moving furniture. The in-room mini-fridge did not work. The wireless internet access had very weak signal and mis-configured DNS. The staff was mostly unconcerned with providing services (although they did do my wife a favor by recommending a spa near Santa Fe in preference to the one at this hotel). The facilities are too spread out to enjoy unless you want to do your hiking on the hotel property. We will NOT return to this hotel -- the price we paid was excessive for what we received, and the full rate for our room is totally unreasonable.

5 Star Resort in Taos - eye stunning!!!
Gail Jul 20, 2009
From the moment you enter the property, you know you are in a top notch resort. You can valet or self park. The lobby is ... stunning & it is the 1st time I have sat down with a concierge to register/check in. She even walked us out the door to show us which way our room was. We had the last building on the right of the property. The landscaping is delightful with a huge elk, southwestern motif, the room was sensually pleasing - soak tub, LG flat screen tv with chamber type instrumental music, fireplace, 2 queen beds with the silkiest fur like blanket and suede bedcover. The toiletries smelled wonderful. Easy to go in and out of the hotel. Visited Taos Pueblo right after checking in. Shopped there and in the shops in town very close drive to the hotel. Drove out the next morning to Rio Grande Suspension Bridge then to Arroyo Secco - loved it!!! It is a small street with the most wonderful jewelry shop, gallery, and of course Taos Cow for ice cream. Rating for dining I would actually mark n/a because we ate out for all meals, only because we were in Taos only one day and overnight. Ate at Michael's for lunch and Downtown Bistro for dinner. Had breakfast at The Bean - you have to go there...

Great location, mediocre accommodations
nuevagato Jul 18, 2009
While the location and grounds at the hotel are stunning, the room was mediocre and spoiled our stay. I could clearly hear ... the neighbors talking and could tell what they were watching on tv (Slumdog Millionaire) - there was clearly no soundproofing in the walls. Service was poor from the reception (absent every time), to the valet (control freak), to the waitstaff at the restaurant (sloooow).

Great place for a family stay
Traveler1 Jul 5, 2009
I paid a VERY discounted last-minute rate, so my review may not be relevant for someone considering paying rack rate for the ... room. We were traveling with two small children and this resort was great. Plenty of room to walk the grounds and the pool was fabulous. The room itself was very clean and quiet. I knew about the "hidden" resort and parking fees ($15 and $12 per day, respectively), but agree with other reviewers that they should drop these fees and just include in the daily rate. A great place to stay if you can get a discounted rate.

El Monte Sagrado survey
Coco Jul 5, 2009
I arrived at approximately 2:30pm only to find that my room wasn't available. I was told that it would take approximately 50 ... minutes before my room was ready. They did offer to take my luggage and have it the room for me. I went to conduct some business and came back about 1 1/2 hours later. I was able to get into my room only to find left over dirty dishes from the previous guest and the floor had not been vacuumed. I called guest services and they took care of it while I was out for the evening. I also had a bit of trouble with the wait staff at the Anaconda Bar. It took a long time to get served. The hotel grounds were beautiful and so were the accommodations. Clearly a resort geared toward couples but not singles or families.

El Monte Sagrado is a fantastic property in a peaceful and relaxing setting. The concept of the hotel is great, however they ... need help with their service. There are some exceptional employees, but just not enough and they always seem to be behind.
