Our Long-Awaited CA Vacation

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was in perfect condition, and was well-equipped with a refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. The morning breakfast was hot and good. The bathroom experience was great; everything worked. I would recommend this location to anyone.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

By all means, take the short scenic drive just 9 miles out of town to Puerta de Luna. With the mountains on one side, and the Pecos River on the other, it was a beautiful drive down a winding road to this little settlement where the Catholic Church is.

Not a place to return to

Girl at checkin was definitely in the wrong job. She HATES people. We were shocked - you'd think in a city as poor as Santa Rosa, New Mexico, that a person would be happy to have a job. Walls thin - we had to call front desk to have neighbors turn down TV. Breakfast was good. Staff was happy to be there.

Great place to stay - Quiet

We arrived in Santa Rosa around 6pm to dive Blue Hole. I reserved the hotel in advance since so many travelers stop in Santa Rosa over night. I recommend reserving a room online to get a cheaper rate (cheaper then [...]). We paid $90 for the night for two double beds, non smoking (which is comparable to the other 3 big hotels in the area) but it is better than arriving without a reservation and paying $10-20 more. This hotel is a great place. The hotel and rooms were very clean. The front desk was friendly and helpful – they allowed us to have a late check out (noon) to accommodate our morning dive to allow us to get back to shower before we drove home. Even with the hotel near the interstate, you could not hear the traffic. I will definitely spend the night here again when I dive in the area. My room mate commented that his bed was so much nicer then his own at his house, that he was going to buy a new when he got home because he slept so well. The breakfast is pretty good too (sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, cheese-egg omelets, danishes, and the other normal items). And to top off our stay, the fresh made cookies were a great aroma to come back too after a late night dive. You will not be disappointed with this hotel!

Don't bother with asking for a restaurant suggestion. Stick with the Comet II or Joseph's. Both offer basic American food and better than average new mexican / mexican dishes for reasonable prices. I like Joseph's better because of the price and taste. Hint - ALWAYS look for the place that is crowded, if the locals are there, then it is good!

Good Trip

Nice stay both times I stayed here I called in late.. no problem my room was ready for me. I even left my travelling pillow (I never travel without it) by mistake and it was waiting for me on the way back. Easy check in and check out, excellant breakfast and peace and quiet for sleeping.

Unbeatable location for the price

The only bad thing was that the receptionist on duty kept my credit card with himself. He later called to return it. He did the same thing to another customer who was in front of me. Other than that it was a good experience.

traveling

traveling thru to Tempe from OK. nice rooms. Would have liked conditioner in the room but it was available when asked the front desk. 2 teadmills for convenience when more than one person in the fitnes room. nice choices for hot breakfast but I have never liked powdered eggs. There was a mix up with my credit card. Did this early with Orbitz, but they said my card didn't go thru when I got there. Had to give it again. When I was traveling back & stayed there 2 days later, the person behind the desk said it did go thru & I was credited for the first stay. The manager wasn' there to talk to so I had to hope that I wasn't charged twice.

new and nice

The Holiday Inn Express in Santa Rosa is new and therefore it is clean and the walls and carpets are not worn. I like the room size which was larger than most and provided adequate space for our many suitcases.
