Great Escape!

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Bishop's Lodge. We brought our German Shepherd along for the trip and she absolutely loved the grounds and the staff couldn't be more welcoming. Santa Fe was such a charming little town filled with excellent restaurants and incredibly friendly people. Also, when we got back to the hotel there were miles upon miles of trails for our dog to run and play. My wife and I truly had an amazing experience on this entire vacation. Fortunately we even had to spend an extra day due to the weather and the staff at bishop's lodge were completely accommodating, honoring our discounted rate for the extra night. We even had a chance to go ski half a day becuase of our extended stay! Highly recommend this hotel.

Misleading Location and Dirty

Extremely disappointed! I booked this hotel for the location advertised on Orbitz (0.6m from center of Santa Fe ). Good thing I had a rental car, as it was NOT walking distance to the heart of Santa Fe! Also, based on the price I paid and the description, I was expecting a beautiful place. I must have been in an old room as it was defnitely very dated and dirty feeling. I am all for charm, but this was not charm. I would not stay here again.

The location is beautiful. Id you are going to Santa Fe there is no need if you have a car to stay near the plaza. It is far more relaxing to be here. I used to go here when my kids were young too and this is ideal for any age group. There were elderly as well as little tots. We got the cheapest rooms and they were large. Perhaps a new coat of paint in the halls would be good, but the room is fine and there is a fridge too and outside table and chair. You can walk, swim, take yoga classes, skeet shoot, horseback ride, book the spa...well worth the extra fee per day.

Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe March 2011

We went to primarily go skiing in Ski Santa Fe and to also tour the Santa Fe Plaza. The room's heating system was bothersome. The heater emits heat even while turned off, so the room became quite warm. Also, we were on the 2nd floor of a two-story unit, so likely the heat from the bottom units migrated up. The horses were all booked up when we wanted to check it out, and the "heated" pool was only heated to the mid 70's in temperature, and the pool could have been cleaner (lots of leaves in the pool). The beds were also not comfortable. The fold-out bed was not useable.

If you go to Ski Santa Fe during busy season, it's a good idea to rent your equipment prior to arriving at the slopes, as the rental area will be quite crowded.

If you don't want RUSTIC, don't stay!

One of the most important things to note is that you have to hike to your room, carrying your luggage up hills, in snow. This is a beautiful setting, but you must be in the market for a rustic experience! The room that was reserved [...] was in the oldest (94yrs) building on site. The room was not impressive; it was old, less than desireable, rather depressing and the whole biulding smelled bad. There was a tray of used food and dishes in front of the door when we checked in at 4:30pm. The front desk staff could not have been more helpful and courtious. She happily offered to upgrade our room with no additional charge. We looked at the other rooms availabe. (Still a hike to get to) the first room smelled like a skunk was litterally under the floor boards and the second room smelled like cigarette smoke and the tub was dirty & stained. We chose not to stay here[...]

Bishops Lodge Resort and Spa

We had an excellent visit at Bishop's Lodge. The enviornment was truly restorative, the formal dining room lovely but the terrace for drinks and light suppers sitting by the outside fireplace was memory making. Staff most accommodating and I would highly recommend it to others!

Excellent. . if you get the right room

The first room we were put in was tiny and had a broken screen and a broken screen door. We called the front and they gave us a new room and an upgrade. The second room was so nice and had a great view. It was a very nice retreat and I am looking forward to taking my kids there for the pony rides and fishing. We'll just have to pay a little more to get a nicer room?

Expensive but nice

We frequently visit family in Santa Fe and have to stay in a hotel due to limited space in their home. The hotels we've stayed at in the past were OK, but Bishop's Lodge is the first one I'd make an effort to go back to. The room was spacious and clean and the view was beautiful. Even though it feels like it's completely outside the city, it's just a few minutes from the center of town. We didn't have time to check out the spa and exercise facilities, but I will definitely make time if we stay here again. Also, it has complimentary internet service via an ethernet cable. I specifically mention this because Santa Fe doesn't have the best cell phone coverage so our air card works only sporadically there, and we've had issues with wireless internet not working well at other hotels in the area. There were a few negatives. First, the hotel is expensive plus there's a $30 resort tax imposed by the state so we wouldn't be able to stay there unless we were able to get a good discounted rate as we were on this trip. Second, we arrived at the hotel at night and spent 15 minutes walking in snow and ice to find our room. We found the correct building without too much difficulty, but the rooms weren't laid out in a completely logical fashion and there wasn't enough light to see the room numbers unless we went up to each door. It would have been a big help if the room numbers had been lighted. Finally, the water was barely hot enough. My husband and I took showers at different times of the day so i don't think it was caused by other people in the hotel showering at the same time.
