What a GREAT place

The staff was great. The room was very clean. The coffee pot went out and we were handed a brand new one. It was wonderful.

Nice Warm Cabins

The only drawback is it's location (past downtown). We paid $99 for a 2 bedroom cabin and sleeping sofa. Six ppl are allowed per cabin. The kitchenette was stocked and there was firewood in the porch of each cabin (for the chimney of course). There is also a game rm, indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna. The staff is really nice. Great value for a low price.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you like trout fishing, ask for directions to Bonito Lake.... It's the best place in town (better than Grindstone and the pricey casino lake).

High Country Lodge

The owners who live on premises were extremely accomodating and friendly. We only had to ask once for things that we needed. The accomodations were roomy with adequate kitchen furnishings. The cabins are old but clean. The furniture is garage sale quality but clean. There is nothing fancy about this lodge but it met our needs well and was close enough to town to be convenient to all destinations. The price was great compared to like accomodations in the area. We would stay again if ever going that was in the future.

There is a small cafe about 1/4 mile from the High Country Lodge toward town on the left side called The Alto Cafe. It serves breakfast and lunch only but we really enjoyed the the excellent food and very attentive service that we got there.

the bad, the musty, and uncomfortable!!!

it was way overpriced for the poor quality of the place. Just not a clean and presentable cabin.

pricey

A bit rundown - but glad to have been able to book at last minute. Stayed there while attending Labor Day horse races - Ruidoso was packed ! Served its purpose but cost more than should have, but I suppose all lodgings in the area did the same over holiday weekend.
