OK hotel in ABQ. Many getaways possible.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Downtown ABQ The staff were friendly. The facility is mostly what I expect of the Regency name. Mostly. The toilet handle was broken when we arrived and had to be fixed during our stay. Unfortunately the repair did not "stick" and the toilet kept running after flushing the rest of the trip. The Head of housekeeping was upset it hadn't been taken care of (points to her!). The in room phones were both not working (barely any sound) and had to be replaced the second day we were there when I couldn't talk with the front desk about wake up calls and the toilet. Land lines still matter in house, so they are fixed now. The best parts of the facility were the king-sized Seeley mattress, the nice lap pool, and the fitness center. The location is awkward. It is downtown in a struggling city. Multiple daily encounters with panhandlers, homeless or mentally ill people were standard. Yet there are some good casual restaurants walking distance from the hotel - Gold Street Cafe, Le Cafe Mich, Flying Star Cafe, Q-burgers - just to name a few. And good coffee - Zendo and the Brew. Within driving distance are Uptown and Nob Hill, both of which have more happening and feel way more vibrant - numerous restaurants cafes, pubs, shopping. Would I stay there again? Probably for the pool and these places I named.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Nob Hill! There are so many good restaurants - Thai Vegan, Elaine's, Scalo, Zacatecas to start. Then there is The Chocolate Dude for a treat, even live music. And for a taste of Ireland, Two Fools Tavern. Don't miss Nob Hill. You can even take a city bus directly there or a short taxi ride.

Great Service

The front desk went out of their way to be helpful on several occasions -- most important of which were to give great restaurant reviews, complete with a map of how to get there... When the garage was filled (a bummer), they were very quick to delete our expense for parking for the entirety of our visit...

disappointed

i chose this hotel because it was listed as a four-star hyatt and I was shocked. Generally speaking, a coffee machine is available in the room or a refrigerator, this room had neither. The decor was old and the room poorly designed. The hairdryer was so old, it looked like it would fall apart at any moment. All my other experiences with Hyatt have been top notch. This was a real disappointment.

weekend trip

I liked this hotel over all, the rooms are very neat and clean, clean bathroom. The restaurant though, took a lot of time to serve lunch for simple dishes and considering that we were the only ones at the time, but other than that, very good experience. I would certainly come back again.

elegance in the smoke!

i was in albuquerque for a pastel artists' conference. the hotel was exceptional. the staff is always solicitous and courteous. the view was inhibited by the raging fires 200 miles away in arizona, but the hotel could hardly be blamed for that.
