Convenient for holiday visits
This is perhaps my fourth stay at the Candlewood. I like the kitchenette when coming into town for holidays with family. It allows me to do some lite prep for food I'm bringing for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners. No oven, but there is a range, microwave and fridge to keep things in before heading over to relatives.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Lots of delis and supermarkets to get a few things for breakfast nearby. The room has plates, pots and pans, so you can make a nice breakfast for the few dollars to get a carton of eggs, bacon, juice and a few bagels.

Great Stay for the Price!
Was there for Thanksgiving and we enjoyed our stay. Staff was friendly, room was clean, had nice cooking and eating utensils were available. We had the one-bedroom suite; it was VERY nice. The TV was great with plenty of good channels to choose from. Couch was a bit too firm for my tastes but my bf thought it was great. Coffee in room free on first day only, after that had to pay $1. (I'm kinda addicted, sooooo...) Nice clean gym and (free) laundry facilities. I was surprised at how nice it was. I knew when I booked that it was considered a 2-star hotel but I took a chance because the customer rating was 3.3 at the time. I have to say we were VERY pleased.

Short walk from hotel
There are a variety of shops and restaurants within a short walking distance and Somerset seems to be fairly central to other towns like Piscataway, New Brunswick,Edison, etc.; maybe 10-15mins at the most.

Very nice, clean
Only stayed one night. No problems with check in. Room was very clean, shower was hot, room was warm. What more do you need. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance.

Good news and bad, really really bad.
We just returned home from a 3 day stay in Somerset. The price and location are very good, the free internet was an added bonus, the staff was friendly and it was the most quiet room I have ever slept in. Usually, when sleeping in a hotel I wake up throughout the night, because of noise, but not here. The only complaint I have should be taken very seriously. The dirtiness of the room. I didn't have to cook there and all I did was sleep and shower, however the kitchen area floor had not been mopped in a long time. There was food and spills all over. The end of the counter had caked on food all over the base end as well as the door leading into the next room. The corners of the bathroom and the sleeping area were terrible. They really need to monitor the work habits of their staff. I would also like people to know before they stay that they only clean once a week (front desk stated) which means if you dirty the 2 towels they provide, you have to take them down to the front desk to get them replaced. If you don't bring your own coffee, you have to visit the front desk daily to get the complimentary coffee packet to brew in your room. Personally, I'll pay the added 35 bucks to stay somewhere else where it is clean and you get clean towels daily."

Bettter the second time around
If my first stay here at the Candlewood Suites was just OK, I'd say my second stay was great! This room didn't smell like someone had been cooking in it (they all have full kitchens). The AC was nice and chill the way I like it - previous room I fussed with the controls on the AC unit beofre I figured out they had been rewired to a wall console. A great stay and a good price. I like the 3rd floor better than the 1st floor rooms.

Sushi, chinese and italian places within walking distance (across the street). Mall nearby - driving distance. I picked up cereal and microwaveable food at the supermarket down the road on Easton Ave. Dishes and cutlery is already available in the room.

Good place to crash - nothing fancy
Late check-in was good. They put your first name on a lock-box and your code is the first 3 letters of your last name. We got in at 1 AM, so this was acceptable. The key is only good for the first night, so remember to go to the front desk when they are open to reactivate it. Room was clean, but I think they only clean WEEKLY - as there was a note on the bathroom counter about that. You can always go to the front desk for fresh towels if needed. It was a good inexpensive stay. The full-sized refrigerator and kitchen was useful. Being that people cook in the same room you sleep in, there is a little odor, but not unbearable. It's like a one-room efficiency apartment. I wasn't able to find any wireless internet, but I'll check again the next time.
