Not recommending it

Had to wait for an hour for their shuttle which they claimed ran every half an hour. Granted, it was late, but when I called again in exasperation, the shuttle suddenly came within 5 minutes. So while I previously had called ahead to request a pick-up and was the only guest that was being picked up at that time, they still kept me waiting for a good 55 minutes. Arrived at the hotel, the owner (?) claimed he'd been there at 2:00 and saw no-one there. Sorry, but there was no shuttle in sight at 2:00, nor at 2:30. I waited from 1:50 to 2:45 and I am not blind - saw every other hotel shuttle go by three times in that time frame. No apology, not nice.

Newark Howard Johnson's

The sheets had not been changed after the previous occupants, even though the beds had been made up (which the staff admitted). The nearest restaurant was a $50 round trip cab fare from the hotel, because the restaurant in the hotel was only open "occasionally". The front desk staff said the neighborhood around the hotel was unsafe for walking. Two of the pizza delivery restaurants on brochures the front desk gave us said they would not deliver to that hotel. We could hear the guests talking in at least three other rooms through the ventilation ducts. The hotel is directly under the approach path for a runway at Newark Airport, with aircraft at less than 300 feet.

Only If You Get It Cheap

This hotel isn't horrible. That's the best that can be said. However, there are MUCH better hotels for the same price within a few blocks. The Wyndham Garden and Crowne Plaza Newark airport hotels are much better options for the same price range. Keep in mind, ALL of the Newark airport hotels are in an absolutely terrifying area. You will not leave the hotel for any purpose other than to catch the train to NY or go to Newark Airport. Walking anywhere is ABSOLUTELY out of the question because they are all located on major 8-lane highways and because the area is shady. Therefore, it would be wise to choose a hotel with decent food (since you will not be dining out). This hotel does not meet those requirements. For reasonable priced decent food, the Wyndham Garden is a better option. Both Sheratons are also good, though higher priced. The staff is kind, though poorly trained. The lobby store has empty shelves; if you want to buy something, they will have to find someone with a key to its door first. None of the coke machines work properly. The mattresses are cheap/awful. The television's feature were not all working. The shuttle service does NOT reliably show up at Newark's Parking Lot 4 terminal every 30 minutes, as they try to convince you that it will. There are no security safes located in any of the rooms and no safe or secure storage offered by the front desk. The room was decent; but terribly dirty when closely inspected...disgustingly dirty. Like everywhere now, be sure to check for bedbugs properly BEFORE letting your luggage enter the room! Be forewarned...you may see a 747 airliner about to land head-on in your window. This hotel is at the exact end of the runway. Therefore, there is constant jet noise. The planes fly sooo close it will give you goosebumps. Other cheaper options are Holiday Inn, etc...though the price differences don't justify them.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Stay in Newark at a decent hotel for 1/5 the price of staying in Manhattan. Take the airport shuttle to the Airtrain at Newark Airport's Parking Lot P4 and you will be in Manhattan in under 50 minutes total for a round-trip cost of only $25. New Jersey Transit trains (NEC and NJCL lines) take you right to NY PENN station effortlessly and safely. Purchase your tickets at the station.

Worst Room Ever

This hotel should be avoided at all times. The staff is entirely foreign and does not understand english very well. Even if you are a guest of the hotel you must pay for parking. At the time when we had visited the hotel it was under renovation and our rooms were being worked on as we were entering. The smell of paint and construction material was overwhelming. Though this hotel is in close proximity to the airport it is a nightmare to navigate the roads in that area. Worst room ever!!!

Bad

The worst experience in a hotel. Broken tub drain. unavailable Wi-Fi internet connection although it was part of my reservation items. The staff are agressive, not friendly and they couldn't solve any problem.

Real dive

All we needed was a place to sleep after a flight and I went with the cheapest. Big mistake. Located between a dozen overpasses, nothing in walking distance in the way of food. The place smelled even though we got a "no smoking" room. Decor was cheap and thin. Could not even get a beer at the restaraunt. No alcohol license. Trapped- we slept and left early. Should have spent an extra $20 for a nicer hotel.
