Better than expected
This hotel was really clean and very close to Newark's famous Iron Bound area. I had a very pleasant stay and the hotel was quiet even though it was fully booked. They offered room delivery from local restaurants and lots of great local area information. It was very central and my room was very comfortable!

awful
The Comfort Suites in Newark is a terrible place to stay. It claims to be a non-smoking hotel, but it smells as though that decision was made yesterday. The whole place reeked of cleaning supplies. On the plus side, the breakfast that came with the room was hearty and tasty, and the staff were pleasant. With only one elevator in the building, we were constantly met by cleaning staff and their large carts. There just aren't that many choices of places to stay nearby. I will travel further to my business rather than stay there again.

Can Beat This!!
For New Years, My Friends & I Stayed Here At The "Comfort Suites" Hotel Right Off of McCarter Highway Located In Newark, N.J. I Was A Bit Skeptical At 1st Considering The Location of The Hotel But Surprisingly We Had A Pretty Decent Time, Especially For The Price I Payed...This Hotel Offers The Same Amenities As The Gateway Hilton, If Not More & For A Much Lesser Price...The Staff Was A Bit Cold, But The Service We Received Was Overall Fulfilling & They Were Prompt In Contending To Our Needs...I'd Def Recommend This Venue If You're Looking For A Quick & Cost Efficient Getaway

The "Comfort Suites" Hotel Is Only A 5min Driving Distance Away From The Newly Built Prudential Center (Great For Those of You Who Enjoy The Weekend NJ Devils Hockey Games)& Newark's Penn Station, Which Is A Perfect Way To Get To-&-From N.Y.C. There Aren't Many Shopping Centers, But For More Than ½ The Price One Would Pay For Staying At The Gateway Hilton One Could Use The Extra Cash & To Go Dining, Site-Seeing or Even Shopping In The City ;-)

The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and best of all no bedbugs! It's not a luxury hotel but for what it is, I got my money's worth. I would go back again if travelling in the area.

great rooms and trustworthy staff
the comfort inn and suites on mccarter road is very clean. I stayed there with my wife before flying out of newark airport. I was shuttled to the airport by one of their employees and picked up when i came back. There arent many shopping areas or restaurants in that area. Its a bad location for vacationing but it is great if you are traveling from newark airport.

Got Directions??
We were traveling to NJ from OH for a wedding and booked a night at this hotel. Before leaving Ohio we programmed the hotel into the GPS. During our trip a fuse blew in our vehicle disabling us from using the GPS for directions. Once we got to NJ, we had called the hotel for directions and the man on staff was not very helpful nor polite. He basically told us we need to make sure we know our directions before we leave home. I have stayed in many hotels and all were very willing to help a customer in need of directions. Not at this one. The funny thing is I read all the reviews for this hotel and almost booked another hotel. But I figured we wouldn't even be in the hotel that much so it wouldn't matter...It matters!! Lesson learned!

A nightmare!
The blankets had what looked like cigarette burns and it was just nasty. The front desk was already starting to babble about something and my wife cut him off and told him he was a liar and didn't want to hear anything more come out of his mouth. She rolled that disgusting thing into the room and I was dumbfounded by how horrible that thing was! Then came the clincher.....we pulled back one of the covers to get into bed and the bed was never cleaned before we got in the room! That grossed us out and we ended up sleeping on top of the covers.

My review of Comfort Suites Newark
Mattresses were worn Air Conditioner did not properly cool the room and staff seemed reluctant to address the situation. Complimentary Breakfast was Satisfactory. Convenient to downtown Newark.

Staffing and Maintenance Issues
I stayed at this hotel 4 years ago when it was fairly new. They are not properly maintaining a nice facility. There are odors - not strong, but you can tell carpet and surfaces are not being regulary cleaned and disinfected. The carpet looks worn and walls and doors are a bit banged up. The desk staff person, while competent, seemed disinterested and unfriendly. He was the only staff person visibly on duty. This is a shame, because this could be a quality facility at a very affordable rate near NYC.
