Extended Stay America Elizabeth - Newark Airport

The Good: It is right by Newark Airport, an outlet mall, a couple of restaurants and it's near I-95, that's really it. The Bad: No shuttle bus service offered to the airport or nearby locations. There are three other hotels within walking distance that offer shuttle bus service and more for the same or just a little more per night. I stayed at this location for a week and a half and have stay longer at other Extended Stay locations around the country. Based on my previous experience at the other locations (which were good) I came in thinking that this location will be no different, a decent stay as a worse case scenario. Boy was I wrong. The TV was outdated (a small 19" box TV), the toilet in my room was making noises that I could hear despite closing the door to the bathroom (Maintenance "fixed it" the first night but the noise returned hours later and stayed for the rest of my stay). The dining utensils provided where old, bent and rusty (better to buy your own plastic flatware anyway). There were two abandoned cars in the parking lot that appear to have been rummaged through a few times. During my stay there were some "guests" who were tailgating in the parking lot and the smell of what they were cooking entered my room through the AC/Heater unit. Bear in mind my window was closed. I'm hard on this place because the Residence Inn that was within walking distance offered alot more at the same rate the Extended Stay was offering. Staying at other Extended Stays in the past, I know what to expect from this operation at a minimum. It won't be stellar, but enough to give a decent review. The Residence Inn offered Shuttle Bus service to the airport and nearby locations, modern rooms with a 37" LCD TV and plenty of space to work and lounge (don't bee fooled with the Extended Stay description of plenty of space), swimming pool, workout room, a barbecue grill outside (no need to tailgate), free breakfast buffet and a free light dinner service. Needless to stay my intended long duration at the Extended Stay transitioned to the Residence Inn after that week and a half. I would recommend exploring the hotels near the Extended Stay over this place.

Room was cold....had to leave the stove on for heat....they could upgrade the tv....and cable....there were no real cable channels...only showtime...no hbo, comedy central etc....

Short stay a few hours, really didn't hotel homey feeling staff was great. Room was not modern

The location and ambience was very comfortable. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. The downsides were - Hard bed - No housekeeping if you stay 2-3 days. - Stinking ac/heater It does sound costly given the above inconveniences. But this was the best bet we could find for our trip to NY. We commuted to NY by the NJ transit and teh train station is just a couple of miles away. Its worth a stay if your expectations are not high.

The staff was excellent.. Its very close to Newark Airport.. can be maintained better..

Checked in and garbage can in room was full.

Hotel was adequate, clean, and staff was quite frendly, however, location was not ideal, considering a 3 minute cab ride to Newark Airport costs $25!

When we checked in there was trash in the room from the prevoius guest.

When I checked in, I admit I did check in late. The person behind the counter gave me a smoking room. I told them it was clearly marked that I wanted NON smoking and he looked over the papaerwork and confirmed that it was supposed to be non smoking. He said that they were booked solid for the night and to come in the am to speak with the manager. I went the next day to complain about the room and he told me that they were full for the weekend and he could not transfer me. He did suggest that if a room became available he would just transfer my stuff to another room. I was working a convention that weekend and would not be there to transfer my own stuff. Since I was traveling with my dog, I told him that was not a possibility. Since my dog is very fearful of strangers. I proceeded to go to the office every day asking for a transfer and they told me they had no rooms to transfer me too. I had a friend staying at the same hotel. Not only was he transfered to another room on Friday night, it was also on Saturday too. apparently both rooms had leaking going on. On Monday, the manager finally came up to see me and the only reason he came up was to tell me not to use the shower because it was leaking through to the lobby. He said he would find me a room and about an hour later, I changed rooms. But the only reason he transfered me was because they was a leak going on in the lobby from my room otherwise he would have left me in that smoking room. I spoke to the manager upon checkout and told me he was sorry but he couldnt do anything for me. Not even if you come back I will give you $$off your next visit. Nothing. Please do not stay at this hotel. Everything is older inside, the beds are hard and the management doesnt care.

it was a nice stay, rooms were nice and clean, staff was very friendly. Loved the the Outlet mall was about 2 min away driving, IKEA is about 5-10 min away. We stayed there and took the Staten Island ferry to NYC and it did NOT take long to get to and from the Staten Island Ferry if your looking to go to NYC. Overall was a great stay. We plan on going back soon since we are living in Boston~*~*~*
