Budget motel with a pass to high-class amenities

The Annex is the result of four-star hotel The Chelsea taking a Howard Johnson hotel under its wing. Though the luxurious touches of The Chelsea Tower rooms do not extend to its Annex, described by the property as "retro-motel style accommodations," the price point is markedly lower than the main hotel. And guests can partake of the same glamorous lounges, pools, restaurants, beach club and beach service as guests of its more elegant Atlantic City sister next door.

Highlights
  • Outdoor heated saltwater pool and weekday access to seasonal rooftop pool
  • Two restaurants and several nightlife venues
  • Boardwalk access to quickly reach restaurants, casinos and shopping
  • Spa offers massage and body treatments
  • Bicycle rentals and complimentary 24-hour fitness center
Rooms

Cost-conscious rooms deliver TVs with On-Demand service and iPod docking stations at the bedside. (No Wi-Fi here.) Bathrooms at the Annex at The Chelsea stay true to the retro vibe with original tile and vintage fixtures. Most rooms have balconies overlooking the saltwater pool. Designed as the hotel's social wing, connecting rooms and suites at The Annex offer group-friendly configurations. Order door-to-door food delivery from Teplitzky's, the classic diner downstairs.

Features

Early birds at this surprising Atlantic City motel can rent bicycles or a private cabana on the beach (available first-come, first serve). Beach service, also first-come first serve, includes towels, lounge chairs and sun umbrellas with private set-up. Weekday guests should check out The Cabana Club at The Annex Chelsea, a seasonal outdoor pool with bar, cabanas and an after-dark social scene. Or, venture out and reach the bustling, Old Havana-themed shops and restaurants of Atlantic City's The Quarter at Tropicana in minutes on foot. Valet parking is available (fees apply).

We walked into a beautiful lobby

We walked into a beautiful lobby and friendly staff...that's where the pleasantness ended. We booked their top of the line room...I'd hate to see what their bargain rooms looked like. The bathroom had to have been at least 50 years old...without the slightest exageration. Chipped, antiquated and lacking water pressure and hot water. We could not shower and we were on the second floor. The "furniture" was plastic outdoor pieces. The part that upset me the most were the waterbugs in the bathroom and the tiny black walled elevator. Folks unless you are desperate for a room stay away!!!

Great Getaway

This was a quaint little hotel with a European feel. Adaquate accomodations throughout. We took an upgrade with a balcony view of Pacific Ave. This hotel was quiet and very conveniently located right off the boardwalk. The hallways were dimly lit, probably to mask the debris all over the floors, however the room was clean. Overall,a decent place to stay at an affordable price.

good for one and for the price

You get what you pay for. There's nothing special for a balcony on the Annex side. The room was nicely decorated however could have been cleaner. For someone who has allergies- DUST is not our best friend! The bathroom was clean but could use a lot of updating. The room was very humid and the air conditioner could not work fast nor hard enough to get rid of the dampness in the room. Fortunately we were only staying for one night. Please put in a dehumidifier for each room.

Not Bad Overall

The hotel overall was not too bad. The only pool we could swim in without paying for spa access was an outdoor pool which was annoying. However unlike our friends who stayed at Harrahs we enjoyed being on the boardwalk. We wouldn't stay here again because I think it would be worth it to pay a little more to be at a casino or at least a place with an indoor pool.

Do not go with high expectations!

I had low expectations and even after that I was disappointed. The worse would have to have been the sheets with fresh blood on them and the bathroom smell of urine and mold. The area gets very loud at night.

The Annex was filthy

Trip to The Chelsea annex

This was my 3rd time staying at The Chelsea and I was very disappointed. I never stayed at the Annex; my other stays were in the Luxe tower, which is much nicer. When we checked in at 4pm, we were told that our room was not ready and we would need to wait. Unfortunately, we had 530 dinner reservations and waiting was not an option because we needed to get ready. We were given another room which was filthy and clearly not a 250 dollar a night room which is what I paid for. I also specifically made a reservation for 2 double beds, and was only given one king. After complaining about the room, we were moved into our initial room which was a mini suite, but still did not have 2 double beds and was not very clean. I will never stay in the annex again. It was a horrible experience.

Not what expected

Let me start by saying I have stayed at the Chelsea before but never in the Anex. When I booked I did not realize where I was put. The room cannot compare to the other side of the hotel. The hall way is dim. The room was small the bathroom was outdated and small. I would never stay on this side again. As I told the manager who tried his best to take care of me. (the other side was sold out). I could have paid $69.00 for a room like this instead of the $170.00 that I paid. The manager gave me free valet $15.00 and free breakfast $20.00. I would stay at this hotel again but never in the ANEX again. Be very careful when booking.
