Even bettern than I had hoped for

This is a great hotel/casino and the deluxe room was a pretty good price. I've stayed here many times and always enjoy it. But the real surprise this time was they upgraded me to a suite. It was one of the biggest surprises I've had checking into a hotel. Fantastic room. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Great shower and jacuzzi.

nice enough =)

Was in town for a conference. the main block of rooms was next door at the taj, but i got a much better rate here. Didnt spend terribly much time in the casino or the hotel in general but enjoyed myself enough. loved the big bath tubs... the bathroom in my room was beautiful. the rest of the room was your standard two bed room. There is a little sandwich shop type place in the hall by the bus stops that is decent and reasonably priced, and a starbucks right at the bottom of the orleans tower elevators. overall a pleasant experience

This was a business trip but had time to enjoy the hotel and what it offered. The weather did not permit us to go out on the boardwalk.

Dining tip: In Hotel

We were very pleased with the buffet and the price. There was a very good selection for the price. Would suggest taking your own soda or water. These items are very expensive.

Ups and downs of the Showboat

First: Parking - It was great to have a garage to park with an elevator right to the lobby level of the hotel. I found the parking fees a little confusing because you're supposed to get a receipt from the front desk when you check that allows you to get money back or something like that. I was never asked whether I had parked there and never brought it up so that's my fault, I guess.Second: Check-In - I arrived at about 3:30 PM and there was already a long line of people checking in. It seemed to take forever but I could have been imagining it, I suppose. I later learned that when a couple of others checked in fairly late in the evening, it still took a long time. They said the staff didn't seem in a hurry and one of the check-in clerks took a break while there were still people in line.Service: General - The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They answered all of my questions and did a nice job in making me feel welcome. The one service point I would change is the way room service answers the phone. Very dead-pan and almost sounded like I was bothering them. The room service menu has quite a lot of variety but everything is expensive. Most of the sandwiches and other entrees for lunch/dinner or later were $9.00 or more. The room: Nice but... - It was freezing in there when I got in. Took me a little bit to figure out I couldn't just turn up the temp, I had to turn the A/C off in order to not have to sit with the very thin comforter on me. The carpet had some stains in it but the room was generally clean and smelled nice too. The easy chair seat cushion was almost as hard as the "granite" table top on the coffee table. The mattress was just as hard. I'm sure that's fine for some people but I felt like I was sleeping on the coffee table. The small refrigerator in the room had either recently been defrosted or had been off for a while because some water came out of it when I opened the little door. I know it was plugged in because the compressor came on after I opened the door. It did keep my drinks cool so it wasn't malfunctioning, that's just something they should check regularly.Internet Access: WiFi - I was under the impression, based on the [...] hotel website that WiFi was free in every room. After trying to access the internet, I was taken to a page where I had to pay about $10.75 per 24 hours for access. If I were them, getting what they get for most rooms now, I would not charge for basic access. I would also offer a secured option which they could charge a nominal fee for. I needed the access so they got more money out of me but, I would suggest adding the access as a free amenity.Dining: I never did find the free continental breakfast. Again, I could have asked but I also think they should make it clear to their guests as to where to go for such things. The whole time I was there, it seemed that the House of Blues restaurant on the main floor was closed and I only found one other restaurant on the property within my budget, Johnny Rockets. (Food was so-so, service was slow but friendly. Hours are not clearly posted for breakfast or closing. I stood in line to order carry out only to be told when I got to the window right behind someone else, they told me they were closed. As I walked away, the staff seemed to have a big laugh about it.)Overall: I enjoyed my stay but not so much because of the room itself. This property is right next to the Trump Taj Mahal which was where the convention took place. One of the associated events was the House of Blues club which is on the second floor. That's a great venue but not a lot of seating on the main floor and again, the chicken fingers or pizza you could order from a little cart at the back of the room was expensive too.I would consider staying there again but would probably have to make a few special requests. [...]

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

If you like nightclubs, the Trump Taj Mahal boasts two hot ones that I know of, the Casbagh and the Ego Lounge. Drinks are still pricey but you're in Atlantic City. What do you expect? There was a great female DJ at the Ego Lounge and she kept the tempo up throughout her set. The House of Blues venue within the showboat is a good place for live acts, especially if you're the type that likes to be close to the stage and doesn't mind getting your own drinks. (It might be different up in the balcony but can't be sure.) Of course, if you like play slots or table games, there's plenty of ways to lose or win lots of money.
