Traveler Bails on Showboat

Potato chips on the carpet, hair in the bathtub, offensive Fox news on the TV and not much else. But at least the lock on the door to my room in the new tower wasn't too loosely attached to the door. Oh no, yes it was. Only one full service restaurant open in the whole complex. Excellent Italian dining. Casino crawling with sad looking elderly who didn't appear to be having any fun. Their electric [motor]chairs presented a navigational hazard. They should install traffic lights on the casino floor. Apparently you need to seek out a kiosk to comp your parking. Too bad the kiosks were shut down. But hey, the room was cheap!

Showboat

Our trip to the Showboat was mainly to see a concert at the House of Blues. We stayed over because we didn't want to worry about driving home late. We arrived and waited in a long line to check in, which is understandable for a Friday night. After checking in, we went into the room to be fairly disappointed. I paid extra for this room, but I should have just went with the standard because it would have been the same. The "Beach front" view was a view of the parking garage, the room itself was small, barely fitting the bed. The only nice thing I would say would be the size of the bathroom, which was gorgeous. I also felt like I could hear every person's conversation in the rooms surrounding ours. Wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money here.

Nice hotel room

We went to other hotels to gamble as they did not have the smoke and haze. I think Showboat should up the a/c and add a machine to suck out the smoke. Better air filtering system or something. There also were no shops and half of the restaurants were closed. No entertainment until the week-end. We went through the week.

The room price at $55.00 plus $19.00 tax was ok. Very high tax. Guess this is the norm. The pool was not open yet it was MAY 2010.

a place to sleep

got in late....notified staff numerous times thoughout the night, and they assured no problem. when we checked in they didnt have the room I originally booked online. I had to go down and get my own bags from the valet, after 45 minutes of being in the room the bags still hadnt arrived, after 2 calls to the desk and finally upon arriving to the front desk to pick up my bags, I was told that they were on the way up. When i told them not to deliver that I wanted to take them myself the bellhop hadnt even brought then in from outside yet!

stains and cigarettes are gross.

Stains on the floor......more than a foot long. And the whole hotel smellslike a dirty ashtray...... it was noisy and there are people arguing and screaming in the halls all night. The restaurants, service, and staff were all satisfactory, it was all overpriced for the sum of the experience, stay somewhere else for the extra 100 bucks.

Think Twice Before Booking

Just came back from Atlantic City and had a bad experience staying at Showboat. First of all, the furniture is "old". Secondly, the shower head is very "outdated" plus not too much of hot water coming out from it. Last, I was "luckily" enough to share the same floor with other "loud" and "rude" hotel guests who were shouting and kicking the room door after midnight. I was very surprised that there was no hotel security or housekeeper came to keep them down. So, think twice before making your reservation.

Mixed Experiences

We stayed here last summer and upgraded to a suite that was perfect for a family of 6. The hotel is right on the boardwalk near the steel pier which has a carnival at night and you can walk to dozens of restaurants, shops and the beach. So when we asked the kids where they wanted to go this summer they didn't hesitate to say, "Showboat!" Unfortunately we didn't have nearly the experience we had last summer. When we checked in they took us to a House of Blues suite, not the same suite we had last summer. It was a cool room but there was only one king bed and none of the couches opened into beds for the kids. I went back to the front desk and asked if we could have the other type of suite or even just two ajoining rooms and was told no. I asked if they could roll a couple of cots in and they said no because the floors are wood. I asked if I could talk to a manager and was again told no. This was upsetting because we paid a lot of money for this room, but we decided to try to make the best of it. I called housekeeping that night and asked for extra blankets and pillows was was told they "ran out." Same thing for extra towels. Call me crazy but this is a hotel, right? So we all crammed into the one bed (not cozy). The next day I called housekeeping earlier and did get extras and then kept them in the closets so they wouldn't take them away. We decided to head to the beach only to find that the beach was closed right there (drudging sand)so we had to walk way down the boardwalk to get on. There was no coffeemaker in the room but there is a Starbucks in the lobby. The people were generally friendly and the boardwalk is beautiful, I just wish we would have stayed somewhere else this time.

Not Impressed

Booked this hotel for a weekend getaway with my husband and chose it due to the reasonable price and proximity to Trump's club Casbah. Check in was fast, which was surprising because we arrived right at check in time. The hallways and rooms had a musty cigarette smell, even though we requested a non smoking room. The furniture in the room was old and you can tell it is in need of an upgrade but the overall size of the room was good and it was clean enough. There was a door that must have connected to the room next to it at some point that was blocked off, a little weird, but not that big a deal. Even though we stayed there in October, it was an unseasonably warm day and the air conditioning in the room didn't seem to be working right. We had it set as low as it went and only semi cool air kept blowing out of the vents. We are a couple in our late 20's and found that the crowd in this hotel was older, much older. We didn't really spend much time there so we really liked the fact that it connected to Trump Taj Mahal from the inside. Showboat is located on the further north end of the boardwalk so it is quite a walk to the opposite end where the Caesars mall and outlet stores are located. Room service was fast and the food was pretty good as was the food at the Mansion Cafe. The buffet within the hotel was extemely over priced for brunch! Overall, we were not impressed, but for the price, it served its purpose. We will however, most likely not be return guests.

Is House Keeping Extra?????

Got down to AC, checked in, no problem. Dumped off the bags, noticed that other than the comfy bed, everything was in rough, dated shape. Went down to the Casino, gambled, had a great time. Came back to the room(first room #1153), to get ready for dinner. As my wife closed the bathroom door, SHE NOTICED THERE WAS A PAIR OF LADIES UNDERWEAR HANGING ON THE BACK OF THE DOOR!!!! We figured if this wasn't cleaned, what else was there. We haggled with the front desk supervisor to change our room and give us a little something for the pain and suffering, I guess that was worth a new room and $25!! Get to the new room and noticed there were only 2 bath towels. You should get 4, especially if you have someone that has long hair. So the next day passes, we get back to our new room(#1467) around 1 AM. Bed is not made and there was never an attempt to clean this room at all. Made an attempt to talk to the front desk about this and we were brushed away with "please talk to House Keeping about this". I wanted some of the rate discounted since I wasn't given a full service for what we paid. Also, the "Gold Club" comps and service are the lowest I have seen anywhere. For the amount of gambling we did over the 2 days, we got about 1/4 as we would have at Foxwoods or Mohegan, or at least what the Tropicana offered in AC.
