Nice Hotel
business traveler Dec 6, 2009
My arriving flight into PHL was cancelled & I called the hotel at 10p to tell them I would not make it that night. They said ... they would just change my reservation for arrival the next night & wouldn't charge me. I was so stunned that they didn't charge me at that late hour! My flight arrived in the morning & I was able to check in at 10a. It was wonderful!

I was at the hotel for 4 nights and 5 days and my room was the worst. There were stains of God only knows on the curtains and ... carpet. I even saw a booger on the wall in plain view sight; gross. Thank goodness for me bringing my own cleaning supplies, pillow, and blanket. On top of that my room was by the elevator-no sleep.

OK to Rest Your Head for the Night, But
Sir_Flea Dec 2, 2009
An okay place to rest your head for a night if you get a room for a cheap web rate. But don't consider this place for any ... lengthy stay or if you have to pay more than $70/night. Also, CASINO WARNING -- If you wanna play blackjack here or at any other of the Harrah's-owned properties in A.C., stay away. Harrah's BJ rules are different and put players at a distinct disadvantage compared to most other casinos. Bally's/Harrah's BJ dealers in A.C. are allowed to hit soft 17. Most other (good) casinos do not do this. Harrah's is trying to sneakily squeeze extra bucks outta you this way. Instead, play at the Borgata or Tropicana. Both usually have plenty of $10 tables and better atmosphere. And the dealers there must stand on 17, hard or soft. The poker room at Bally's is kinda Mickey Mouse -- small, out of the way, not much action. But it was clean. Poker at Bally's is an afterthought. The Borgata poker room blows this one away in every way. I found the Bally's hotel a confusing mish-mash of dumpiness. There's no logical flow to things; things are hard to find, and you often have to go way out of the way to get to things. I think this is probably because the place is rather old and because of the way it's connnected to Wild West and Caesars, both of which also are Harrah's properties. To get anywhere, guests at Bally's must go up and down a labrynth of elevators and escalators and through many dark, narrow, low-ceilinged doorways and corridors. This is made worse because the escalators seem to be routinely shut down (budget reasons?). The common areas of Bally's, particularly the stretch from the parking garage to the casino floor and hotel check-in are terribly delapidated, dark, and maze-like. Yuck. The "eateries" are few in number, hard to find and offer little in terms of a good, quick meals. There are some very nice looking restaurants on the sixth(!) floor, but I did not try any of them, as most were closed during the day. The casino floor is very generic, save for the table games areas, which are quite nice. (But again, I did not play there for the above-stated reasons.) Basically, I use Bally's as a cheap place to spend the night when I can't get a comped room at a nearby casino. It's a short walk or a short drive to the places I really want to go.

A Pleasant Stay
Super Nurse Nov 22, 2009
I was in town for a 2 day business seminar at the Convention Ctr. and I had a very pleasant stay at Bally's. It's just ... within sight of the Conv. Ctr. I was on the 19th floor and it was quiet and restful. I was very comfortable in the king sized bed and liked having the electric thermostat control to keep the room temp comfortable for me. The room was very clean, and so was the bathroom. The comforter on the bed was clean too. That's often been a problem in other hotels. On my last day, I ordered up room service and they said it would be about a half hour. It was about only 20 minutes, so that was nice. The gentleman who brought my meal was very professional and pleasant. And they gave me plenty to eat (more than I asked for) I do have a few complaints worth mentioning. They could upgrade their TV's (Old style & poor picture) There are only a few channels. They didn't even have my favorite! (A&E) I was looking forward to using a feature that they boasted... the ability to avoid lines by checking out from your TV in the room. So as I tried checking out at 11:45 AM, the system failed. Not only did the keyboard not work, but the menu button on the TV kept showing "error" everytime. So I had to rush down to stand in line and check out by 12:00 PM. I just took the classic room this time, but there should at least be a microwave in there. I didn't find the refrigerator till the day I was leaving. As I surveyed the room to make sure that I didn't leave anything behind, I found it inside the TV cabinet. Never saw that before in other hotels. The ice buckets need to go for routine cleaning. I get the feeling that they're left in there for long periods of time without a good washing. (Gunk around the edges, so I didn't use it) There were snack machines conveniently located, but as with all hotels, the prices are beyond ridiculous. But being right on the boardwalk was a plus because I just went to one of the Dollar Parlors and got soda & snacks there. Staff did their jobs well and overall, it was a very enjoyable trip. I had a chance to rest from a hectic work week and would definitely stay again. The price was excellent too. (that's because it was November and the Noreaster had just ripped up the Jersey shore!) $47 for Thurs & $80 for Friday.

Bally's Atlantic City - an ok hotel
Biz Traveler Man Oct 22, 2009
The hotel seemed old and and now keep up for what was rated as a 4 star site. The mid week rates where good but this ... hotel was not great for the business traveler. Internet access was poor and ran $12.99 for every 24 hours. Rooms did not have desks to work and I had a hard time finding the business center. I will look for somewhere else to stay next time.

Ballys Atlantic City: Centrally located
jmeyer Oct 19, 2009
Even though I requested a non-smoking room, I was put in a room with a strong smoke smell at first. After discussing this ... with hotel staff, they somewhat reluctantly put me in a different room, which was completely smoke free. This made my stay much more enjoyable. They have designated smoke and smoke-free areas at the casinos, but since they're not physically separated, it's still the same air, and I would have preferred a completely smoke-free section. The pool, sauna, steam room and tanning booth at the older part of the hotel (Claridge Tower) are free. They're clean and in good shape. The newer facilities in the other part are $10. Overall it was a pleasant experience. The hotel is centrally located in the middle of the boardwalk, which offers many food choices, ranging from take-out pizza to a few sit-down restaurants. The beach is easy to reach, and there are still plenty of things to do on a rainy day, since most of the casinos are connected by indoor walkways. There is also a nice Pier shopping mall with a must-see water show (every hour) nearby.

Rooms were small and some smelled like cigarettes. Check-in took forever, slowest in my life. She made it as if she's making me a favor to check me in the hotel. No TOOTHPASTE!! Most all of the food in Atlantic City was absolutely disgusting and overpriced (and don't get me started on the service). Places to avoid eating include 1) The Bikini Beach Bar - on beach across from Bally's) the food and drinks are extremely overpriced and the food is stale, soggy and gross. 2) Trinity (inside Shops at Caesars)- again very overpriced, horribly loud music blasting and terrible food. 3) A D@mn Good Sports Bar (inside the Quarter at The Tropicana)- the food here is absolutely awful but they do have great drink specials which means if you're drunk you won't taste or remember the food as much! 4) Bill's Gyro- we went here for the 24 hour breakfast- the waitress was rude, all the food was greasy and the eggs tasted like Gyros. Some places that were decent to eat at were 1) The 6ix Bistro in Bally's - the $7.77 Steak and Eggs was good quality and a great deal. 2) Wolfgang Puck in The Borgata- Despite having to send back an undercooked chicken breast that my boyfriend probably got Salmonella from, this was the best meal we had in Atlantic City. 3) The Deck at The Trump Marina- This place was right on the harbor and had a reasonably priced selection of seafood that was decent.
