Our doggy got us to the bretton arms

We had thought of the bretton arms as a poor man's choice wrt the big hotel on the hill, but now we are really very glad that our dog persuaded us to stay there. Charming, quiet, kind service and an delicious breakfast in the special offer price. Our only gripe is that the staff didn't tell us our dining options when we called before we arrived and so we missed the experience of dining at the bretton arms restaurant, which was closed following our first night. If the breakfast crab cakes were anything to go by it would have been the best restaurant at the resort.

Moth balls.....

We were traveling for a wedding and the front desk staff could not locate the welcome bag from the bride and groom until minutes before the wedding the next day. Subsequently we missed a dinner event the day before. The room smelled like moth balls and the furnishings tired. Definitely overpriced. Otherwise, the wedding was great!

Warm hospitality

Arrived and welcomed by helpful staff. Room was clean and spacious w/ 2 double beds though a bit dated. Lots to do when the weather didn't cooperate. Enjoyed full access to all Mt. Washington Resort amenities -- spa, restaurants, large common spaces, pool, shops, game room, etc. Shuttle available 24/7 to get one around. Various restaurant choices from high end to burgers.

Lots to do on premises -- indoor and outdoor pools, exercise/workout space w/ up to date equipment, many common spaces w/ various games available (i.e., chess, scrabble, checkers, cribbage), spa, variety of restaurants, various outdoor activities depending on season, etc.

I can't wait to get back!

I was in NH on business travel and was looking for a hotel that was a break from the usual business hotel routine. This was certainly it: Great accommodations, very welcoming staff, excellent food, and lots of ambiance. I would not change a thing. I'm planning a spring return when I visit this area again.

We Loved This Place!

At first we felt a little like outcasts being in the annex. However, we were able to use the facilities of the main hotel and found the walk to and fro easy, even though it was raining for part of our stay. There's a lovely walkway from the annex to the main resort. In the morning we drove to the auto drive up Mt. Washington, which took an hour to get to, but it was pleasant driving. In the afternoon, we sat in a lounge with a glass of wine enjoying the spectacular view of Mt. Washington. It looked like a postcard with the autumn colors. We enjoyed just walking around the place at night. It was a grand and historic place. If we were to be super picky, the tv was small and not great reception and there were places where the upkeep could have been better, but can appreciate that such a large place requires constant maintainence.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Reservations for the main hotel restaurant should be made at least the day before. We ate both nights at Fabyn's -- a short car ride and operated by the resort. The food was good and atmosphere casual and appealing.

Great stay

Beautiful location, a short walk away from the main Mt Washington Hotel. We enjoyed the nature trail and even played a game of chess on the life size board on the property. Big rooms, all very clean! Great place!

Wonderful place for all ages

Built in 1896, lots of charm, but all the modern amenities. We loved being on the campus of the Mt. Washington Hotel and Resort with its grand veranda, dining room, ballroom, spa, golf course, trails, and unequaled view of Mt. Washington. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the quiet intimacy of the Bretton Arms. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed (not a cookie cutter room, for sure!)with a spacious bath. We hope to go back during another season. While we did not have kids with us, we were impressed with how family friendly the resort was, with lots of activities for kids. Two relatively minor criticisms: We would have preferred a firmer mattress. And, the ventilation fan in the next unit was audible in our room.

No dinner

When stay at good resort hotels, I expect to have good dinner but if you also think it, you should not choose this hotel. I stayed for two nights but no restaurants available although there are 3 restaurants in the resort and one just outside.
