NCSU Visit

Our family booked 2 rooms as we traveled to Raleigh during our spring break in order for my son and his friend to visit NC State. Our initial room placement was not together, but upon requesting adjoining rooms, the staff personnel was quite accommodating. They also was quick to provide local details regarding NCSU, explicit directions and suggestions for local dining establishments. The rooms were large and the beds were comfy; only the pillows were rated average, based on my tough motel standards. The free breakfast passed my son's evaluation, making it a nice start to a very busy day ahead. My only mark on this motel is its location-distance from NC State's main campus, and the difficulty turning left out of the parking lot. However, the location is an A++ for those attending NCSU's football games during the fall. It's in very close proximity to the stadium.

Breakfast made me hungry...

First Two Stars of my score: Check-in staff made us feel more than welcome, and had several recommendations for dinner in different price ranges. They were great! (We chose their #1 rec-42nd St. Oyster Bar---WOW!) Third Star: The location was perfect to go to the Rembrandt in America exhibit, less than a mile away. The Two Stars I didn't give it: Breakfast was just not good. Coffee was weak. Orange juice was watery. I wanted yogurt in addition to biscuits & gravy but was told I'd have to pay extra. Okay, then give me oatmeal and yogurt (one of the grouped choices on the menu). Out came a "light" yogurt, a bowl, an envelope of instant oatmeal and a little pot of hot (but not hot enough!) water. Had to make my own, and it was like eating raw oats in hot water. A little leeway with the menu would help, and a little preparation would be appreciated. And the restaurant itself was closed (for renovations?), a fact not known before arrival.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

42nd Street Oyster Bar -- pricey, but the seafood is fresh, service is excellent, and watching the chef from the oyster bar as he made each bowl or cup of oyster stew to order inspired me to order a cup of it, a'la carte. Excellent! Everything --- six stars out of five!

Great place to stay for NCSU

Quite place with friendly and helpful staff. Quite near and very well connected to NC state university by bus as well as a short quick drive for folks who are at Raleigh for anything to do there. No restaurants close by though the in-house one is fine. Watch out, the restaurant and bar are closed on sunday evenings... so stock up on the drinks and order pizzas if you want to step out. Overall a good clean and comfortable place to stay.

Great place

We enjoyed the motel restaurant and having a refrigerator and microwave in our room. My husband was taking the bar exam so it wasn't a very leisurely trip, but the bed was nice, which was the main thing. The room was clean as well. If you want fridge/microwave I think you have to have two queen beds not 1 king.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

Not a lot of higher end chain restaurants in the area, but there was a great Italian place (Amedeo's) about 2 miles away. Near there is a Wendy's, McDonald's, Subway, and a grocery store (Red Lion).

Excellent location close to fairgrounds

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here for our visit to the state fair. It is within easy walking distance to the fairgrounds. The state patrol station is closeby and there is no problem with security. The dining area is comfortable. The rooms are spotless. All in all a very good value for the money.

Welcoming Ramada

We were pleased to see that the football crowds did not flood the hotel. The hotel was clean and restful. We plan to stay there again.
