Sleep Inn Hickory

Hotel was convenient for me to visit my family in Hickory. Easy on an off the highway, close to a nice mall, restaurants, and the Metro Center. However, the hotel's decor needs updating, and the staff should do away with the overpowering air freshener in the lobby, hallways and rooms. Not a good place for anyone with fragrance sensitivities or allergies. All the rooms should have refrigerators (this is 2011 afterall!!!). Mine didn't, making it difficult to keep snacks on hand. Breakfast area was under construction, and looked dumpy. Overall, I'd recommend it as good value for anyone who doesn't mind a '50's era hotel.

The stay was good with the exception, the continental breafast room was dirty and no employees there to restock the food.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bottom floor smelled smokey and the hallways on 2nd and 3rd floor had a musty/floral/soapy odor like too much use of a carpet deodorizer. Our room was very fresh and clean and so was the room where breakfast was served. The complimentary breakfast had coffee, juices, milk, boiled eggs, hot waffles, cereals, biscuits & gravy, muffins, bagels, toast, & spreads. The bed was OK, hotel manager said mattresses had been replaced due to reviews about hard mattresses. We had 4 pillows for the queen bed which was great because we like thick pillows.

This hotel was ok. The rooms were clean, but the walls were a little thin. It was easy for me to hear the TV of the person staying next to me. The beds were very very hard. Harder than most uncomfortable hotel beds. You could tell it hadn't been redecorated in 20 years, the TV remote only had channel up and down buttons so you couldn't punch in the channel you wanted. Funny enough, the channel guide was wrong too. Also, the TV was very old. So old, that not only did it have a built-in VCR, but the screen would flicker and go out every few mins, so you would have to get up tap the side of it to correct the picture. Breakfast was very small. Apples, cereal, and donuts. There was a waffle maker, but it didn't work very well. There was no vending snack machine - only drinks and there was no mini fridge in the room so I had to buy every meal. Overall, it was fine. My biggest thing, as I would imagine would be most people's, was cleanliness. And yes, the room was clean.

The room was very clean. The staff was friendly. Had a wonderful breakfast. The only unpleasant experience was that the mattress was extremly uncomfortable.

The hotel was satisfactory. It met expectations but did not exceed. The front desk was very helpful.
