Location

The Carolina Inn sits on historic real estate: the grounds of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the oldest state-supported university in America.

Rooms
The Carolina Inn captures Southern charm with local photographs and antique furniture produced in the heart of North Carolina. Designed by architect Arthur C. Nash, who developed a number of buildings on site at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the hotel mixes early American and English regency styles via tasteful floral prints, brushed nickel lamps and handsome wood furniture. Green travelers will appreciate the low-flow toilets, sustainable fabrics and mattresses and other eco-friendly amenities. Standards cover free Wi-Fi Internet access, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and organic Pharmacopia bath products.
Dining

The Carolina Inn hosts fine diners in a quaint, Southern-influenced setting at The Carolina Crossroads Restaurant. Seasonal fare drives the cheerful eatery, which makes a striking impression with ruched drapes, floral-printed banquettes and gorgeous Colonial wood dining chairs. The hotel also honors tradition with afternoon tea, a celebration made all the more formal by heirloom china, crystal and silver settings. For cocktails, guests relax in the bar, which is warm and inviting thanks to a fireplace and leather chairs.

If you fly into RDU to stay at the Carolina Inn (or any other hotel in Chapel Hill for that matter), make sure that you rent a car at the airport, rather than taking a taxi from the airport. Car rentals from RDU are very inexpensive, whereas cab service in the area is pretty limited, especially on the return to the airport from the hotel.

be careful how you book

In our many years of staying at the Carolina Inn, we have never had such a room. There was NO window, except for a small 12 inch basement type one at the top edge of the wall. It made an already small room unbearably claustrophobic! To pay extra for a deluxe queen room, and get this was very disappointing. There was also a band playing in one of the ballrooms with quite the drummer! At least they stopped at 11p.m. This room must have been right over the ballroom, but with no window to look out, we have no idea. Also, no clock. We'll stay at the Inn in the future because of wonderful experiences in the past[...]. Not the most comfortable stay we've ever had!

Carolina Inn - Chapel Hill, NC

Very nice 1920's style hotel on the edge of the Chapel Hill University campus. The have live music on the front lawn on Friday nights so it can get a little crowded and noisy, but generally fun.
