rudeness from owner or employee
we had booked non-smoking and was put in a smoking room that smelled awful. She did move us after being quite rude and acting like we were attacking her because we didnt get what we wanted.

Visit to local family
I was very impressed with the cleanliness & freshness of everything in the room. Nice microwave, fridge, coffeepot, beds, linens, pillows. Plenty of TV channels. Bathroom was in need of remodeling, but was clean. Very good & quiet heating unit. It was cold & rainy the days I was there and I was comfortable in my room. The price was very good for the times.

Reasonable accommodation
Its our second time staying at this hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is dated but if you're looking for just a place to sleep, then this is a reasonably priced hotel. It's right in Black Mountain, walking distance to downtown, and a few minutes drive to the college campus. The staff were friendly, and accommodated an early check in.

One night at the Super 8
Spent one night there on our way to a weekend in the mountains. It was certainly lacking in many areas. It had a rather run down look to it and the room was no great pleasure. The beds were fair, but nothing great. A fridge in the room missing a working hinge, stain on the ceiling, and a tv with less channels than advertised. The only snack vending machine was out of order and the free breakfast in the morning left something to be desired. All in all, if you're simply in need of a bed for the night and nothing else, it's passable. If you're looking for anything more, keep driving.

The mexican restaurant across the parking lot isn't bad. The tables are rather cramped, but the food is decent. Just avoid the margaritas!

TV reception has to improve
We have stayed at this hotel for over 20 years. It is very convenient to downtown Black Mountain (just a short walk)and the Asheville area. The rates are very reasonable and I will probably return. On this trip, we found the television reception to be very poor. I don't know if they use cable or satellite, but whatever it is, it's inadequate. We actually stayed in two different rooms, In one room we could only pick up about 7 channels and some of them weren't clear. In the 2nd room we got about 10 more channels, but the reception was hit or miss depending on the channel. A channel that came in very clearly in the first room was very fuzzy in the second room. The channel that came in most clearly in the 2nd room also had perfect sound quality. Alas, the sound came from a different channel! This was a minor frustration, but it did spoil our stay somewhat.

Great Time
We were there to visit with family. It is a great location with a really good Mexican restaurant within walking distance. But the best part is the friendly, conscientous staff. Everyone was approachable and helpful. It is like a family atmosphere! We will definitely be staying here every time we are in Black Mountain.

The Mexican restaurant. You know it's good when you have to wait. The wait was not that long though and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. Wish we had discovered it sooner.

Falls Short
We had to move from the first room we were given since the tv didn't work. Everything was v. basic; didn't expect many frills from a 2*. Breakfast was not much; even though my expectations were low, I think it fell short. I found it annoying that while we were eating the desk person was doing her chores, sweeping etc. You got the feeling you were a bother. I've always felt the staff should be unobstrusive; that certainly wasn't the case. Hence Bottom line, not much of a bargain. Stayed at an Econolodge a few months back--less expensive and far nicer. Hence, I would not recommend this particular facility.
