Good Value
Good location- handy to the interstate and city and a safe neighborhood. Complimentary breakfast was OK- nothing special- bagles, muffins, cereal, coffee, juice, no protein-that was a disappointment room was large and quiet and comfortable; but in general, somewhat rundown like the rest of the place; free wi-fi worked fine Enjoyed watching the six feral cats in the parking lot. Sorry to see that the pool was not operational.

Ho Jo's a best value !
Howard Johnson's location is right off I - 40 and very close by car to the Biltmore Estate and within walking distance to several restaurants. The continantal breakfast was more than adequate and the staff was helpful with important needed directions.

Cheap and Decent
We booked our room at the Ho Jo based on price, access to the Biltmore Estate attractions and the generally favorable reviews on this site. While this is an older property and the outside maintenance is spotty, the room was clean, the bathroom had been updated, the AC, TV, Refrigerator, and WiFi worked. The beds were comfortable. The free continental breakfast was minimalist, but decently presented and kept up. The coffee was actually decent. Access to Biltmore and other Asheville attractions was excellent. It is just off I-40, so getting to the property was no problem. Plenty of nice restaurants less than 1/2 mile away. For the price and location, it is a very good value.

If you like Indian food go downtown to the Chai Puri. They serve "Indian street vendor" food at very reasonable prices in their informal little restaurant. Great Indian food that you will never see at the typical Indian restaurant.

cant beat it for a cheap place to stay
This is my first time to Asheville and I have to say I need to move there . The Howard johnsons was good enough for me. I am not too picky as long as a place has clean sheets and running water I'm good. the only negative I encountered was the water pressure in the shower was terrible but worked nonetheless. If you are an artsy liberal type the city of Asheville will feel like home to you. My wife and my primary reason to go there was to see a concert featuring Widespread Panic and what an awesome show and the Asheville civic center was the best indoor concert venue I have ever been to. We decided in about 15 after arriving in town that this was going to be home in the n ot too distant future. I am a studio furniture designer and maker and would fit right in in this community.

"Just the basics"
If you're in Asheville for anything other than a dedicated vacation (business, wedding, graduation) and just need a place to change, shower and shave, this is your hotel (in other words, not spending much time in the room/on the property). Great does not begin to describe the location with relation to Biltmore Village/Biltmore Estate and downtown so the price is well worth it. If you're looking for more of an 'experience' stick with something pricier. Clean room, clean linens, clean bathroom, friendly staff.

Pretty Decent Hotel
The hotel wasn't the Biltmore, but for the price it was worth it. High speed internet worked, nice continental breakfast, friendly staff, but most important, NO bed-bugs!!! HAHA! Overall I'd stay again...

another security issue
room was ok for a single night stay, did find a bug (may have been a cricket, not sure) on my pillow... Bigger issue was that a door that served as a short cut from the hallway we were staying on (room 235) to the lobby/registration area would not latch unless forced shut. This was the door to the pool area. Other residents were not pulling or pushing the door shut and I probably noticed this and pulled or pushed it shut myself about 6 times... I did bring this to the attn of the young lady at the front desk on Sunday morning before we checked out!

meh
Staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was closed. No internet access in room. Metal key needed to enter every area, but key card needed for room, making a trip to the ice machine complicated. Halls are creepy tunnels lit by dim flourescent lights. Seems to be the best value in the Biltmore estate area. Convinient for brief stay attending to business nearby. Getting to central Asheville requires a car. Better options closer to downtown.

Dripolator coffeehouse on Broadway in Asheville makes amazing espresso. They use Counter Culture beans, which I've never seen on the West Coast.
