NOT MONTANA's FINEST LODGE!!!

Went on family vacation & paid top $$ for the best room with/loft- what a joke, zero value for the money. Rooms were dated and old. TVs very old school cable comes right off connectors- no LCDs. bathrooms outdated hot water only Luke warm. Web site looks much better- but in reality it does not match. Rooms poorly cleaned, no attention to detail, red "blood colored" stains on carpets, wood blinds, crumbs in couch cushions, bathrooms floors room floors not swept daily, bathroom sundries never replenished! Complain and nothing happens. Try to check out early and get fined a $30 administration fee- Really give me a break! New owners, no one has authority to do anything! Web site falsely advertises services that do not exist like babysitting services. When asked about them, desk clerks state lodge is under new ownership and these things are no longer offered. Avoid the Grouse Mountain Lodge, only about 10 cars in the parking lot, and dozens of rooms available no surprise here. Obviously others have figured this out already, locals will tell you, once a great place- but no more! I came over 3500 miles to this lodge based on the web listing and I am very disappointed - about the only decent thing was the restaurant. I travel worldwide as part of my job and have spent 100's of days in hotels worldwide and my Suck-o-meter pegged on this one. I recommend other hotels like the Kandahar Lodge (at the ski resort), and the Lodge at Whitefish Lake (nice large place by the lake).

Comfortable but needs updating

My wife and I came here to get away to rest. We had been here 10 years ago and had a very nice experience. The service was friendly and the place still has its Montana charm. but were disappointed that many things were not kept up over the years, like carpets, trim, fixtures. Food at the restaurant was good, large portions. The hot tubs outside were nice with a view. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable. But people should know that a train runs by through the night, and blows its horn at a nearby crossing. That happened at least two or three times, which disturbed out sleep.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

There are many nice restaurants just a mile away, along with shopping at quaint small town stores that capture the Montana lifestyle. A shuttle is available from the hotel to these. The train station is also just a mile away.

Might as well stay at Holiday Inn

The idea that there is "Nothing finer" is completely false. There was no rustic charm, and nothing upscale about it. It was ordinary. I was very disappointed after reading the advertising. There was nothing really wrong with this hotel; it just was sort of nondescript. I expected it to be a special Montana getaway, but it might as well have been a La Quinta or another chain. For that price, it was disappointing. The staff were fine, nothing special. The room was fine, nothing special. The restaurant was fine, nothing special. For the prices they charge, they need to be a LOT more special. Our room overlooked the golf course. It was pretty ordinary.

Pescado Blanco in Whitefish is the best restaurant I have ever been to. It is Montana-Mex, very unusual, and fabulous!

clean pleasant wonderful place to enjoy Montana during the winter

Grouse Mountain Lodge was clean roomy and very comfortable...the pillows were the best...nice and fluffy. The food in the hotel restaurant was very good, and reasonably priced...I would choose Grouse Mountain over any place I have stayed in the Flathead Valley.
