This hotel was excellent, and not just for the price, which was also amazing. Perfect location, beautifully clean rooms. The ... only, and I mean only, downside was no internet access but with the library only a short walk away, I really couldn't complain.

I worked my butt off preparing my house to be sold. I was nice to go to a cool clean room when the day was done. Need regular ... Pillows not Giant marshmellows. This also happens in other Hotels though. They need more handicapped rooms available.

The good, the bad, and the really ugly

We were stopping in Vicksburg to visit the Battlefield Park and do some gambling while there. The Park was GREAT, however ... this hotel and casino were not. To sum it up, the facility was showing a lot of wear...tape holding sections of carpet together. Also, the gift shop counter was almost empty, the number of people in the casino were few and it was Saturday night, and one resturant/bar was "Closed for the season"...whatever that means. The room was average in size and clean. One excellent stand out was the "Valet Lead" person. She took care of us and our bags from the beginning to the end even when we checked out and I gave told her the wrong room number not once but twice! (A Senior Moment?)

A few blocks away at 1214 Adams St., just north of Clay St., is Walnut Hills Restaurant. A true southern cuisine restaurant located in an 1880's house. This is a must dining experience and was suggested by a local. Check their hours before you go as they closed at 2:00 pm on the day of our visit.

We're not gamers. We were looking for a good room value while visiting historic Vicksburg. In that respect, the property ... was a great find. The hall carpets are a little worn. The rooms were modern and well maintained. The walls were a little thin. There were, to our knowledge, no provisions for Internet. The casino is a bit run down. Staffing is a little sparse. The property is on the waterfront near industrial facilities, so expect to hear (and feel) the occasional freight train or heavy truck. Be that as it may, the rooms are a great value.

Rusty's Riverfront Grill, a nearby casual establishment, simply served up the best steak we have ever experienced.

The casino staff was very friendly, but when we checked out the front desk staff couldn't even suggest a breakfast place ... other than McDonald's. (They live in Vicksburg. Surely, they could come up with other suggestions!) We went to a Cracker Barrel we had seen off the interstate and it was really nice with excellent service. Vicksburg has a Shoney's, that serves breakfast, too. I'm sure there are other places to eat breakfast. I heard some of the bed and breakfasts have walk-ins to eat, but I'm not sure.

Naleka Pewterware. Right off of Interstate 20. Wholesale prices (1/2 off retail) open to the public. Beautiful gift shop with free giftwrapping. Extra friendly staff. Not too far from outlet shopping mall exit. Just a couple of exits towards Vicksburg. (Maybe three exits, I'm not sure of the number, but it is close.)

Good location. Reasonable rates. Older hotel that is well kept. Rooms are small but clean. My room had a frig in it. Staff ... was very helpful. I would stay here again. The casino is a bit run down.

The Hotel was nice and clean, the rooms were spacious and quite. The Buffet was small and to expensive for what they had to ... offer. The food was good but, not a lot of choices. I would stay there again, and I would recommend this Hotel to my friends & family.

The hotel is far away from the other casinos. The hotel staff could use some customer service skills but were not awful. The ... have free valet parking but finding the valet and trusting them was a little hard for me to do. The hotel has seen better days but is not that bad. I got a non smoking floor however as soon as I opened the door you could smell the cigarettes. I went ahead and stayed in this room since I did not feel like lugging all my luggage downstairs another time. Overall it was ok but I think I might stay at a different casino if I ever go again.

Right beside the hotel is the murals all along the river and there is a water park(sprinkler-type) right next to the hotel. And the next street up from the hotel is all the historic district with restuarants and shopping.

we enjoyed our two-night stay at the horizon-- the lobby areas are beautifully decorated and the room was ... comfortable--the only little issue we encountered was that our room was not cleaned after our first night--we called for clean towels and promptly received them, but when in a hotel, I surely expect not to have to make up the bed and wash the coffee mugs--this, however, would not prevent us from staying at the horizon again, and I have since recommended it to several friends and family members

Loved the room. Very clean and staff very nice. However we had the dinner buffet and the food was not very good. Not much ... selection and some of the food was not labeled and you could not even tell what it was. We maybe should have tried the sports bar and the food would have been better. We ate at 6:00 pm so the time shouldn't have made a difference. Will stay here again but eat somewhere else. Ate breakfast down the street at the Ameristar Casino and they had an awesome breakfast buffet for 5.99. The foods that they were putting out for the lunch buffet looked awesome too. I would recomend eating there if you are looking for a good reasonable place to eat. But we loved our room and the staff were all very nice.

The hotel staff was very courteous and check in was quick and efficient. The room was very clean and comfortable. When ... staying at a casino hotel, we usually eat at the buffet. The Market Buffet offered a good variety of choices and the food quality was quite good. I would definitely stay at the Horizon again. THe casino is a nice size with a plenty of gaming choices; while the stay was very pleasant you can't bank on a jackpot!
