Great Stay from my Home Far Away

I was very surprised at my stay in the Microtel Inn at Hattiesburg, MS. I was there for a family event and had to bunk with my brother. Although this Microtel had no swimming pool the staff service and location well compensated for the lack of this one amenity. The rate I had for the room was great but what struck me the most was the cleanliness of this facility and (the most important to me) the friendliness of the entire staff. From the GM to the ladies that took care of the rooms everyone was courteous and helpful. This kind of genuine courteous and helpful service I usually find in only the upscale hotels and inns. This was the first time for me to stay at a Microtel Inn so it will be interesting to find out if the whole chain is like this or if this experience can only be found at this location.

"The good, the bad, and the really ugly"

I came to town for the University of Southern Mississippi Homecoming. The staff members at Microtel (including the assistant manager) were not very friendly, the rooms were not ready at check-in time and the staff member would not give me a rough-estimate of the amount of time it would take for the room to be available. The staff member continuiously stated " Ma'am I just got here, I dont know when they'll be ready." I asked her if she could get more information from someone else so that I could think of something to do to occupy my time since the rooms (there were several people who had to wait in the lobby for their rooms as well) were not ready and she did not ask anyone else, she just continued to give the same excuse that she had just gotten there. (Obviously, if a person is coming from out of town, it is most important that they have a room available at check in time because they may not have anywhere else to go). My room was not ready until 45 min after my scheduled check-in time..no apologies, explanations, or accommodations were made to alleviate the problem. I was quite disappointed in this and feel that I and other guest should have been offered a discount for our inconvenience. I also over-heard a housekeeper talking negatively to the same assistant manager about some consumers who stayed over-night as both of them laughed. I do not think that it is professional to talk about consumers (who are the reasons they have jobs in the first place) especially when others who are staying there can hear them. I have had far better experiences on previous trips I have taken, I do not plan to stay at this facility again.
