We recently spent 2 nights at this hotel and were EXTREMELY disappointed. We booked online and from the pictures and description we were to have a jacuzzi tub and a suite with 1 bedroom and a living room. Upon arrival at the hotel we discovered
that their version of a "suite" with a bedroom and living room is simply a regular size hotel room with a 1 foot wide half wall and archway leading to a sitting area. I have stayed in several hotels with suites, and this always means there is a door separating the rooms. Also, I saw on other hotel websites (a Comfort Inn in Moss Point I believe) where this exact same setup was called a "sitting area," not a suite. We had booked this hotel because we have 2 small children and wanted them to sleep in a separate room. We also were supposed to have a crib waiting for us. They did not have any when we arrived. Our room smelled horribly musty and moldy, and the carpet felt damp and sticky. We discovered there was mold all over the bathroom ceiling and so we were moved to another room. At this time we also found out that the hotel only had 1 or 2 Jacuzzi tubs, which are out of order. We had to be moved to a room with 2 doubles instead of a king because we needed the extra bed since there was no crib available for us. This new room smelled so strong like an odor bomb had been set off that we could barely stand the smell. By this time it was around 11pm on Friday night, and we had no other option but to stay. The a/c did not work well, and we were hot most of the night. The tub had hair in it and the toilet was dirty. Also, when you sat on the toilet, the whole thing rocked considerably. The carpet in this room was also damp and sticky feeling. The bottom sheet on the beds was a flat sheet that did not fit the bed, and was not able to be tucked in, so every time we rolled over, the sheet came off the bed. When we went to the front desk to tell them about the mold, the clerk was kicked back with feet on the desk talking on his cell phone. We leaned on the desk to get his attention and he looked up and said, "What's up?" while still on the phone. The next morning we looked for another hotel but since it was Labor Day weekend, there was nothing available. We also found out the next day that they simply painted over the mold in the bathroom and put another guest in it that night. (The clerk told us this.) Not only does this not get rid of the mold and mold problem, it leaves toxic paint fumes that are not cleared out in a few hours time. We stayed another disappointing night in this hotel, but canceled our third night and headed on down the road to find another hotel. I am just amazed that the EconoLodge can even still call themselves a Choice Hotel. I feel like we threw our money down the toilet.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short drive from hotel
There is an amazing restaurant about 25 miles away in D'Iberville called Sicily's. It is an awesome italian buffet with lots of different kinds of pizza, pasta, soup, chicken, salad, bread sticks, soda, icees, ice cream, about 6 flavors of coffee, deserts, etc... Great atmosphere, clean, great price ($7.99 until 5, $8.99 after 5), great selection. Kids 3 and under are free, and after that just 99 cents per year.
We had specified a wheelchair accessible room, and while the room was on the ground floor and the bathroom was accessible, the room itself was very small and crowded with only the necessary furniture. It was very difficult to navigate the room in
a motorized wheelchair. For the size of the room I thought the price was too high.
The breakfast was adequate and convenient with juices, coffee, tea, cold and hot foods.
We stayed at this hotel while visiting the beaches of the Gulfport area. Our experience was decent but not wonderful. We stayed in a room with a king-sized bed, and we had enough room to set up the baby's playpen. Everything looked clean
enough, but we had some minor problems. For example, the refrigerator made so much noise that I had to unplug it, and the drain stopper in the sink was broken so that I could not soak the baby's sippy cups. We did find the staff to be friendly. Breakfast was modest to say the least: a few pastries, a waffle maker, and some cereal were all that we could find. This is a good enough place to spend the night, especially since there are few hotels in the area, but don't expect a luxurious stay.
