Nice ambiance

This hotel was very easy to find and had a comforting and elegent atmosphere with a wood burning fire place in the lobby. I was very disatisfied with the hotel dining options. The room service is very limited on options and expensive. It offers food choices that are more focused on fanciness than taste. Only about ten options total. The Fox and Hound is a bar, no food offered but a cheese tray. Coming from IL, the smoking atmosphere was a bit much for me to take. The hotel is non-smoking, but the bar in the lobby is not. Overall, a decent place to stay. Not a choice for those looking forward to ammenities. The television in my room was about 20+ years old and very small. I did like the staff and their friendliness during most of the trip.

Unique antidote to the cookie-cutter chain

Chesire Lodge was a theme park without the rides. Its eclectic, although ostensibly British, ambiance was charming and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the gigantic (stuffed) bear in the foyer and the historical St. Louis photographs in the breakfast nook. Although I expected some kind of werewolf or elf to be in costume the real Chesire Lodge staff were extremely polite, professional, and helpful at all times. Our room was ample in size and well appointed, featuring (amazing!) a window that opened to allow fresh air in. King size bed was comfortable. TV could have been somewhat larger, but was adequate. Room was cleaned well. Business center was small, but adequate. Internet access was good. (As opposed to another large chain hotel in St Louis where I had recently stayed, which had a large business center, albeit with largely non-working public internet access and pricey in room access. Pool looked like fun, but for summer only as it was outdoors. I would have liked a fitness center, but made do with excellent walking paths in close-by Forest Park and in the neighborhood. Parking was free! Property had an on-site pub, but we did not partake. Excellent location...close to Forest Park, Washington University in STL (which is why we were there), neighborhood bistros, Clayton, and highways. Not for everyone, but I loved it!

Forest Park is not to be missed. Check the giant AMOCO sign next door to the hotel as you walk by......supposedly it is an historical sign. Neighborhood bistros are tucked into storefronts and within walking distance between Chesire and Wash U campus.

BAD CONSTRUCTION

The Chesire was a nice hotel. The loud noices in the morning was very horrible. You could hear jack hammering as early as 8:00. The fox and hound was the best thing. If you like real breadkfast this is not the place. Every morning there was donuts, coffee, box cereal and canned peaches thats all. The T.V is very small and for the money I paided, there was not any type of fridge in the room.

In a Rework State

The hotel appears to be in a midst of a total overhaul. The entrance is not readily discerable. You really have to hunt to find it. Apparently there is an underground parking garage that is in poor repair. It has caused much of the area adjacent to the lodge to be roped off from car trafic; and it is closed. Thus you have to carry your lugage a long way to the desk when you find it; and parking is at a premium. The rooms were OK, but not great. The TV was had a very small screen.

Very friendly from the time I checked in until I checked out.

The person at the desk was very pleasent and made me feel at home from the start. The hotel is very clean even though it is going through remodeling. The whole staff always greeted me with a smile and a hello. The rooms were large and decorated appropriately in the English theme of the hotel. I will stay here again on my next trip to St. Louis MO for sure.

My review of Cheshire Lodge

We were very pleased with the hotel. We had two rooms (ajoining) Only disappointment was that becaouse of a crack in the underground garage the swimming pool and resturant had to be shut down. It was very close to St. Louis Zoo and Forest Park.

Nice room, bad shape

I was happy to get a reservation, but I found out that the hotel was far away from my client's office. The outside was almost falling apart! It was nice that they had free internet access, though. There was no food and no swimming pools. The area around the hotel is a little sketchy..

shuttle service was very helpful

I was most impressed with the air-conditioning in the room; it was central air rather than the blower in a box under the window. Made the room very comfortable. The decor needs updating however. It is still rather 70's British. Overall though, very comfortable.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

St Louis has a good many interesting neighborhoods as well as sporting events and Forest Park with it's endless events and attractions. The shuttle to and from anywhere in the city makes it very easy to enjoy the trip.
