gratitude.

The rooms were nicely kept and cleaned. Plenty of comfort and a nice layout. The true highlight was the staff. Each person that I interacted with was friendly, helpful, patient and seemed honestly kind. I greatly appreciated their time and energy. From the front desk clerks to my waiter on Saturday morning for breakfast, to the navigator desk person, to Silvia, who cleaned my room. Thank you.

Great hotel, but has hidden expenses

Very large, exquisite hotel. Stayed in a room with one king bed and a nice big window overlooking downtown St. Louis. The mini fridge was great to have, and the bed was comfortable and had a nice down comforter and soft pillows. The bathroom had a large tub with the curved shower curtain rod, giving you extra space, but the shower head was so high up on the wall that I couldn't reach it without standing on the side of the tub (I'm 5'1). My husband had to come in and adjust it for me and it was really lose for some reason. I couldn't point the shower head in the direction I wanted because it kept falling downward. Not sure if it was just our room or if all the rooms are like that. Also, the layout of the bathroom puts the sink behind the door, which is awkward. You have to open the door and then close it to get to the sink. Then there are the hidden charges. The room comes with a bottle of water, but it has a $3 tag on it. You also have to pay for wi-fi in the room. They charge you $14/day to park your car in the garage, which is the only place to park and I didn't know about the parking fee until we checked-in. They do not offer complimentary breakfast, but they do have a restaurant in the hotel and a Starbucks, which means more money spent. I found the Starbucks to be a bit lacking for such a nice hotel. The coffee was typical Starbucks, but they barely had any pastries/cakes/sandwiches at all. Overall, great hotel if you don't mind spending the money. This was a special treat for my husband and I, not our typical hotel stays. We didn't feel safe walking around after dark, so be aware of the location. Even during the day we had bums trying to ask us for money and sketchy-looking people were wandering aimlessly on the streets.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a large grocery store (Culinaria gourmet grocery) a short walk from the hotel. I wish I had known before our last day because I had forgotten to pack a few toiletries and I could've gotten them quickly from this place, instead of driving somewhere.

Rams Football Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend getaway at the Renaissance. The room was clean and comfortable and the close proximity to the dome made it a great choice to stay. The breakfast buffet offered many choices and a chef was available to prepare the perfect omelet. All in all, I would recommend the Renaissance and would most definately return. Best of all, the Rams upset the Saints!!

World Series Stay

excellent...walking distance to everything downtown. We stayed in their "suites" building across the street from hotel in order to get a 2 room suite at same price. Very nice since there were 4 of us. Aveda amenities and coffee in the room. Comfy bed, pillows and comforter. And we got a win in the ballgame so the stay was just perfect!

The 2011 Gateway Classic

Locating the hotel, check-in, and parking was easy! One of the staff members walked me across washington street to the towers where my room was located. I enjoyed the Whirlpool except for Saturday night it was closed, I was in real need of the whirlpool due to a problem with my back! The front desk staff and the bar staff in the Tower very good, very people oriented! This was my second time staying in this hotel in the past 5 or 6 years, I would definitely stay again! Missing, complimentary breakfast and internet access for Silver Elite members, unless I am misinformed! Anyway, it kept me from doing work on my getaway weekend of football and fun! Thank you!

A comfortable place to stay with extraordinary employees.

I was recently in St. Louis for a job interview. When I arrived at the downtown hotel where I'd made reservations, I discovered that I was one of two guests staying there that evening. The hotel had me in an isolated room on the 10th (and top) floor that didn't have any internet access. Then the night manager handed me a map of the hotel that looked like a hand-drawn picture of a haunted house. I'm not a big fan of horror movies, but I imagine this is how many of them start. Not wanting to star in a remake of The Shinning, I called the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel to see if it had any rooms available for the evening. Its wonderful employee got me into a lovely room and promptly dispatched a cab to rescue me from the other hotel. I slept very well and had a great interview the next morning.

For the price I expected a lot more

The front desk on arrival was very friendly and helpful; however, we were told the pool was out of service, but we could go across the street. With 2 little children in down town St. Louis was not something I was going to do. A big disappointment for the kids. The parking for the hotel was a bit over a block away . I left my vehicle with new items purchased in it with the valet to park. After leaving the hotel 40 minutes later I had noticed my vehicle still sitting in the same spot, unlocked, no valet personnel in site and a herd of people passing by heading to the football game. A secondary party that had joined us there to meet for a concert had left her car to also to be valet parked. She had to leave back to Columbia at midnight; they "lost" her car and finally found it after 2 hours. They had stated they would not charge my room for her parking. We ordered room service and was charged for extra food we did not purchase; I tried to call down twice and nobody answered. The next morning at check out I was still charged with 2 valet parking, had to explain about the overcharge on food and when they apologized and would remove it from my billing, they handed back a bill for more than for what we started at. Almost an hour to check out of which took about that long for them to retrieve my vehicle. Not impressed with the service at check out and parking. For the price, we had much better accomodations at the Sheraton that you could walk right over to Scott Trade Center.

Very nice.

Check in was a little crazy as several conventions were finishing up, but after that everything went smoothly. Great location for a great price, I would do it again.
