Average family getaway

My family has visited Tan Tar A many times since the early 1970s. Back then it was a premier resort. Unfortunately what was once a top notch resort is well past its prime. The amenities haven't kept pace with the times. The room we had in the tower was in dire need of new carpeting, wallpaper, and furnishings. I had to call the front desk to pick up room service trays with food that sat out in the hall for more than 24 hours.

Horrible, Old & Unclean

First the estates rooms are very secluded from the main hotel. Just opening the main door to our room I knew by the smell this place was old & moldy. The carpet was stained, there were dead bugs laying on the floor, there were stains on the wall behind the 80's refrigerator. The furniture was falling apart and the bedding was less than desirable. A good hotel/resort always uses white bedding that can be bleached to ensure cleanliness. The air condition was loud when kicked on & woke me up all night & when I got up the next morning the carpet was sopping wet from rain water coming in at the corner. By morning both my kids woke up with a barking cough b/c of the room dampness. Indoor pool was OK, but lockers rooms for bathrooms at it were disgusting. I just hoped the chlorine in the pool would kill any bedbugs that were on us! I will never stay at this resort again. I don't think it is one of the best places to stay at the Ozarks anymore.

Nice family getaway

Beware the indoor waterpark. For no more than is there, it should be included in the cost of the hotel. Not worth the money to get in.

Hard to get around

Much better if you get in the main lodge, but out in the "estates", it is difficult to enjoy the resort.

Quiet, but old

I stayed there for a business convention. I had never been to this resort before, so I had no idea what to expect. The first room I got was isolated and since I was by myself I didn't want to be in the woods with no one around, didn't feel safe, and it was on the bottom floor. So I requested to be moved closer to the resort. The resort is very old and the rooms certainly look that way. I would not recommend this to a business person, for a family that might be staying for vacation, it might work. You have to drive everywhere or take shuttle, limited room service,no breakfast. Also when I tried to cancel a day a early, I got charged the full amount.
