Art Deco grace in the center of Kansas City’s nightlife scene

Hotel Phillips, the tallest (20 floors) hotel in downtown when built in 1931, continues to impress guests at first sight with its art deco style, elegant wood paneling, and grand dual staircases. The feeling of a European boutique hotel continues in its 217 guest rooms and fine-dining restaurant, 12 Baltimore, with live jazz, swing, and Zydeco on Saturday nights. Guests can enjoy the city's pulsing nightlife as the AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel sits just two blocks from the Power & Light Entertainment District and amid numerous restaurants and clubs.

Highlights
  • Landmark building on the National Register of Historic Places
  • AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel
  • Free Wi-Fi in public areas and restaurant
Rooms

For families, Executive rooms feature either a king or queen bed and full-size sleeper sofa, while couples or the business traveler in a Superior room enjoy a sitting area alongside a king or queen bed. All rooms offer European styling with plump duvets comforters on the beds and bathrobes and Well Spa bath amenities in the bathrooms. Work or play with complimentary high-speed Internet access. Features

Hotel Philips was the epitome of luxury after its construction in 1931. A tropical-themed lounge with thunder and lightning sound effects and drizzling rainfall was popular with World War II servicemen and countless celebrities and heads of state, including Presidents Eisenhower and Truman and screen stars such as the Barrymore family.

Enjoy fine dining at 12 Baltimore, Hotel Phillip's upscale restaurant, or host a special event in the private dining room. 12 Baltimore serves full hot breakfast, with Saturday and Sunday breakfast buffets. Locals know 12 Baltimore as a popular downtown spot for a business lunch or after-work martini. Signature dishes include the Shredded Beef Brisket Sandwich and Steak & Frites.

Saturday nights bring live entertainment with an eclectic mix of sounds. Patrons and hotel guests enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi in the restaurant and lounge. In The Heart of Downtown Kansas City

Great location right in the heart of downtown Kansas City in addition to its close proximity to the Power & Light District. Art Deco style hotel that has been remodeled with modern amenities. Smaller rooms, but it fits with the mystique of the hotel.

Perfect downtown stay!

It was a very nice hotel! Nice and quiet, and very close to all the downtown places we wanted to go. Our AC wasn't working correctly, but maintenance fixed it within a few minutes. I would definitely stay there again!

Highly recommend

Hotel Phillips was highly recommended as a place to stay near the Sprint Center which was my primary point of visiting for a concert. I spent one full day in KC. The location of this hotel is perfect as it is two blocks from all of the shops and bars in the Power & Light District which is across the street from the Sprint Center. I took advantage of the fact that it is so close to everything in that I went out and about for a few hours and when I wanted a break, returning to my room was so easy and quick. I was able to drop off stuff I bought, re-energize, then go out for more touring. I walked everywhere (and I'm not a fit person). The staff was one of the kindest and most accommodating I have ever experienced.

Quick weekend getaway for two

The location and amenities of this hotel are good to great. Our experience from the moment we arrived as a little rough. At first they couldn't find our reservation in their system, then they suddenly found it. While checking us in the lady at the front desk answered the phone three different times, even though there were two other people assisting her at the front desk. We were happy to finally get on the elevator to arrive at our room to find out neither of the keys were working. In her attempts to multitask she forgot to activate them! The room, especially the bathroom, wasn't as clean as it should have been. We could hear everything in the hallway, there wasn't much for privacy. We were awakened at 4 am to some very loud kids out in the hallway. So overall, I'm not sure we will return. We loved the location and the overall ambience that the hotel has, but the staff, cleanliness and comfort brought it down a couple of notches.

Very nice and comfortable

I like staying in the older, established non chain hotels. I basically just slept there, but it was very traditional, clean and comfortable.
