Not What I Expected

The Good: Hotel is located in spitting distance of a fantastic Sushi restaurant called Sakura. The water pressure and heat of the shower was phenomenal. After my husband took a shower, I was immediately able to draw myself a bath so hot I couldn't even get in right away. Love it. Also, though there is no swimming pool in the hotel, you can access two through a skywalk that are in different buildings as part of a fitness center. The Neutral: Perhaps because of how cheap the room was or the website through which I booked it, we were clearly designated the least wanted sort of room - directly next to the elevator and smaller than your average single at a strip motel. Not a bad thing - I don't mind noise and who needs floor space when you're there to sleep? The Bad: Much more expensive than I realized it would be. There is no free parking anywhere, you need to use their valet service for $22 per night or an identically priced nearby parking ramp. They have a Keurig machine in the room, but charge $3 per k-cup used. They have bottled water, for $7 a liter. This isn't so bad because you can ignore the minibar by not opening it - but I don't appreciate the $20 teddy bear hogging space on the tiny writing desk in hopes you'll buy it. There were crazy price tags on so much stuff I was afraid to touch anything. Whether you pay debit or credit, they take $100 more than the cost of your room up front, and promise to redact it after assessing if you deserve it back based on what you have taken from the room. It just makes me really uncomfortable to conduct business that way, and I wouldn't go back. On a final note, I used my plastic laundry bags to line the trash cans I used. I get that putting paper doilies on the bottom looks cute and fancy, but it really spits in the face of the maid who has to pull hair and snotty kleenex or gosh knows what else out of there when you check out.

Nice stay-cation

The hotel is nice, the bed is amazing! Couldn't get the Keurig coffee maker to work in the morning which was annoying, but we just went out and got coffee which is more fun anyway. A great night overall!

Great hotel - slow valet service

Delightful place, but they could use twice as many staff working the front door. The entrance was very thick with guests waiting for their vehicle and it took about 45 minutes to check-out and depart the next morning.

Wedding Anniversary

This past weekend was our anniverary (36 years). We chose the St. Paul hotel because of its location to events we were going to participate in. The room was very nice, although we did not have the view stated in their website. Our one and only problem was my wife got food posioning from a restaurant in the hotel, and what began as a special event turned out to be a very bad experience for my wife. I took her home early the following morning and to seek medical attention.

st paul hotel

The location was nearly perfect for where we needed to go regarding our stay there. Food and drinks there are overpriced, but that's to be expected from a "ritzy" hotel.
