Once-historic bank becomes modern Minneapolis luxury

The downtown Westin Minneapolis is a faithful blend of historic significance and modern luxury. Transformed from the Farmers & Mechanics Bank, this Tony four-star hotel retains the original World War II era woodwork, marble staircase and vaulted lobby. Guest rooms are equipped with modern amenities like MP3 players, flat-screen TVs and Internet access (fees apply). Following adventure on the town, the end-of-day rewards here are plenty: an indoor pool cloaked in midnight blue, a dimly lit cocktail lounge and a savory dish or decadent treat at B.A.N.K.

Highlights

  • The penthouse patio boasts panoramic views of the city
  • Original bank vault converted into a wine cellar at B.A.N.K.
  • Partake in a true "no interruption" function in the hotel's vault-secured meeting room
  • Walking distance to Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis Convention Center, Metrodome, Target Center and Hennepin Theatre District

Rooms

All 214 guest rooms at The Westin Minneapolis offer superior comfort. Decorated in sandstone colors blended with creams, whites and bamboo, the atmosphere is refreshingly modern. Featuring the famed Westin Heavenly Bed, all beds are dressed in rich fabrics and include dreamy touches like an ultra-thick pillow top mattress, fluffy down comforter and lots of throw pillows. Rooms at the Westin come complete for business travelers with a spacious work desk, mesh swivel chair and chaise lounge. Request an upgrade for a city or courtyard views or a private balcony.

Features

The Westin Minneapolis keeps indoor and outdoor fitness buffs in mind. Warm up in the hotel's fitness center and heated indoor pool. Golfers are minutes from the Highland Golf Course and Stonebrooke Golf Club.

Dining

Located in the lobby, B.A.N.K. offers stylish American dining. The lively open atmosphere is great for people watching across the huge center-stage oval bar and large dining room. Those looking for a quiet escape can take to the more intimate B.A.N.K. lounge for small plates and cocktails.

good, but not great

Westin is a nice place to stay, But I expect a bit more form a "4 star". Mini bar fridge was not on, so all beverages were warm, light bulb out in desk lamp, loud ventilation outside room, and dirty silverware with room service. These things can be dealt with, but one should not have to for the price.

Weekend in Downtown Mpls

Great staff! The room was small but very comfortable. The location worked great for our activities - 1/2 block off from Nicollet Mall and several coffee shops in area. Pool was not kid friendly. Parking expensive but probably par for Downtown Mpls.

Great weekend getaway

Our stay was really good. The room was very comfortable and roomy, we could have stayed in bed all day because the bed was so comfortable. One of the only complaints I have was that the shower handle was a little tough when you wanted to change it from cold to hot. Other then that the valet/bell hop/front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful. The security they had in the evening checking if you were a guest weren't that friendly but those are really my only complaints. I would def stay here again. The pool was amazing! We didn't use the workout center but walked by and it def had a lot of equipment for those looking to work out while away. We came into town to go to the football game and this hotel was right in the middle of the city. Wasn't a bad walk at all to the metrodome or other bars/restaurants in the area.

Go visit the Fulton Brewery. Have some beer and order food from the food truck outside. The brewery had a great atmosphere/beer and the food truck had great food!

good location, overpriced, $13 internet?!, noisy rooms and hallways, bar was closed for private party on a saturday night without notice-not cool when you book a room based on the hotel amenities and then can't use them. All the front desk would do is say sorry and it definitely wasn't a heartfelt apology! $30 valet parking per day, or don't use their overpriced service and park in the parking ramp across the street for $5 per day. probably won't stay here again.

Girls weekend!

This was the first time that I stayed at The Westin. It was a beautiful hotel and the Bank Restaurant downstairs was awesome-such great character in this hotel! The rooms were very nice and the beds were really comfortable. I thought it was a good price for the location of the hotel, too! Overall, great stay!

Holiday Visit

Spent a lovely weekend in downtown Minneapolis. Westin is a block from the light rail so dumped the rental car and took the light rail downtown from the airport- $3.50 for the 2 of us. Fast, comfortable, cheap and essentially door-step to door-step. Westin ties into the skyway system so you can hike all over downtown without exposure. Hotel is in lovely refurb of F&M Bank- Nice lobby bar/restaurant for a night cap. Room was fine- up to Westin's standard of comfort though it was view challenged. Staff was genuinely friendly instead of scripted friendly. Great get away weekend.

Don't pass up the Mill City Museum- interesting and great views of the riverfront. Gutherie is next door and worth a visit too. We happened in just before a matinee and scored some great rush seats.

quick getaway

Beds were really comfortable and rooms were very clean. However, our room was really warm and there was no way to turn the heat down any further and of course the windows don't open. The staff was very nice. One of the elevators was broken and we were on the 10th floor so long waits coming and going. But when we alerted them to the problem they immediately closed off the broken one, instead of waiting for several others to get stranded in like we were. For some reason they didn't receive the special, which was a free bottle of wine and two appetizers. They didn't question our word and gave us the coupons regardless of the confirmation. Wine was delicious!! Perfect location if you want to catch the Holidazzle parade.

Holidazzle parade was a few blocks from the Westin. Don't be late! It only lasts for approximately 20 minutes. Was fun and got you in the spirit.

Great Stay.

From the moment the valet greeted me, I knew I was in for a fantastic stay. The lobby is gorgeous. The room was amazing and the beds are extremely comfortable. A sky bridge links the hotel and a shopping center, which at first makes you feel a little uneasy but in order to go to guest floors, you need a room key. Perfect hotel and fairly priced.
