Great rate for a one night getaway with the spouse. We were within walking distance of fantastic restaurants and entertainment. Totally would do it again for the great price we got.

Stay here!

Perfectly located in downtown Minneapolis. Our room was amazing except our was a view of an office building about 10 ft away. My husband said the fitness center was well equipped and elegant. All the bells and whistles.

Lovely hotel

A lovely hotel. Not next door to much, but just a couple blocks from many restaurants, shops, etc, and a pretty 15 minute walk to the Walker. Hotel itself is quiet, with a terrific gym and sauna in the building, nice strong coffee downstairs in the AM, and free (and fast) WiFi. Our room wasn't particularly big, but it was nicely decorated, and had a huge bathroom with tub and separate shower, nice bath salts and soaps, and lots of towels and wonderful robes. Great stay. Parking at the hotel was expensive, but there are lots of parking places w/in a block or two that charge less ($5/day on weekends) and we found street parking most of the time.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Beautiful walk to the Walker Art Center through the shopping area and a nice park. The bridge over the big interchange by the Walker gives you a great birds-eye view of the sculpture garden.

Lovely Downtown Accommodations

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel in the past and had a wonderful time once we were checked in. [...] we were to have an upgraded room when we arrived, but having stayed before in a much more luxurious room, I sincerely doubt that this had been awarded. The bathroom and its amenities were the best part of the room. Great shower! Housekeeping did a very thorough job, and the turn-down service also replaced any towels or product that we had used since morning. It was alos great to have an entire Lifetime Fitness Center at our disposal on the third floor of the building. The Grand Hotel is connected to everything in downtown Minneapolis via sceond story skyways. This is a wonderful convenience if the weather is not cooperating. We used it to go to another hotel bar on Sunday afternoon because the bar in the Grand Hotel was closed all day. We just wanted to watch basketball and have a glass of wine. The whole downtown area is somewhat dead on the weekend during the day, so the bar closing is understandable but still an inconvenience for its guests. The Twin Cities has come a long way in the past several years as far as cuisine is concerned. We highly recommend Heartland in St. Paul and La Belle Vie in Mpls. Great caramel rolls at Isles Bun and Coffee also!

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

France 44 on 44th and France is a fabulous wine shop with a cheese shop and deli attached. They make most of their products like quince paste themselves. There are wine tastings and classes at the wine shop as well.

Grand Hotel for Theater and Opera

The hotel provided an unrequested upgrade to a suite. A nice location for the Guthrie Theater; just a $5 cab ride away or even a walk on a nice day.

Excellent health club (track, courts, full compliment of equipment). Downtown, not far from the well regarded Guthrie Theater. Well appointed rooms.

Old time charm

Loevly old, well maintained hotel. Excellent service from friendly staff. Best shower ever in a hotel, though our room did not have the "bathroom TV" described in other reviews. Couldn't find parking costs on hotel website or [...]; was disappointed to find it was $24/night. Good, but not remarkable breakfast at onsite restaurant. Lap pool ONLY, not a good choice for families with kids or for those hoping for a soak in a hot tub.
