Sheraton Duluth

We came to see Lake Superior and travel to Grand Marais. The check-in was average and the clerk was not very helpful in directing us to the elevators. Once in the room however, we noticed that the room was very clean. However, the bed was very soft. The clerk said that all the beds were the same. We dined at a Japanese restaurant as the hotel had very little to offer. We also had cocktails at the place next door because their happy hour was cheaper and had more variety. I'm thankful we only stayed for two nights because my back was very painful thanks to the mattress! This has never happened before. I can assure you that we won't be back.

Shraton Duluth Hotel

We booked the Sheraton this time again because of our last stay here we thought we would spoil ourselves a little and have a great ending to a spring vacation. This was not the case this time, were booked into a handicap room for reasons unknown, both days the hallways were noisy and people were going from room to room drinking at all hours till at least 4am when things finally quietend down. It appears we were booked into an area where people were there for a wedding or a party of some sort. High class hotel in a low class environment. Very disappointing.

OK - some good, some bad

I liked the hotel by the end of my stay, but hated it at first. The parking is in the public lot behind the hotel (they validate), but there was no sign indicating this, so first I kept driving around the block, then finally had to park at a meter a ways away and walk into the hotel to ask. It was a bit hard getting through all the doors from the lot to my hotel room with only one or two handicap buttons for automatic door opening. As I came into the guest room with my luggage, the door closed on me and the handle (long, not round) left a bruise and cut on my hip. I had asked for a room with a view of Lake Superior. They said that would cost $20 more, and I said I would be glad to pay it. My room was on the third floor, and I could see only a thin stripe of the lake above the building across the street. But it turned out that they did not charge me the $20, so that is OK. The bed wasn't very comfortable. But once I got over my initial poor impression, I did like the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facilities were fine. The room was comfortable and aesthetically nice. Good desk, flat TV that could be turned to desk or bed. Very nice location. So - all in all - it was fine. I might test another hotel next time, but I wouldn't actively avoid this one.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

The New Scenic Cafe is perhaps 10 miles up the North Shore, but one of the best restaurants ever. It looks like a log cabin diner and is somewhat informal, but has amazing fine food. I had grouper and rhubarb pie - both to die for.

Nice but noisy

My boyfriend I were visiting Duluth for a quick weekend get away. The hotel was clean, modern & in a great location for attractions, dining & access to the lakeshore. The staff was generally helpful & printed out directions for us. Unfortunately it did have a few downsides.First, the doors to each room slam so loudly that we barely got any sleep. Light sleepers beware.Secondly, they list themselves as a pet friendly hotel but they have very strict rules. Including you are not to leave your dog unattended in the room at any time, no exceptions. They even stopped us on our way out to dinner to make sure we were going to keep our dog in the car. I've been to much "pet friendlier" hotels in the past.Lastly, there was a mix up with my bill, my contact info was completely incorrect & they were unaware that I had already paid via [...].I would say it is a good location for young, single professionals & travelers that aren't planning on staying the room that much & want to be close to local attraction but that's about it.

Fitger's is a local restaurant & brewery which is very close, has great burgers & a wide variety of locally brewed beers.

Excellent place to stay

I was attending a training at the Center for Non-Violence which was a mere block away. I'm not a morning person so the ability to place my room service breakfast and specify the time of its delivery the night before was a fantastic perk.

My review of Sheraton Duluth Hotel

Beautiful, clean, very well maintained property. Staff was very polite and responsive. Amenities were also clean and accessible. The only negative was the parking facilities: awkward, accessed via elevator and skybridge.
