Not a great place to stay

The hotel was less than helpful. All other hotels in the area had courtesy shuttles to the Mall of America and to the Airport. Spending $45.00 a day on a taxi is not my idea of a good time.

Bad News Hotel

We arrived after 8:pm only to find that they didn't have our reservation even though we had a confirmation number. They told we could use their computers downstairs [for a surcharge fee] to print a copy of the confirmation, but they couldn't help us. I found a manager who took us back to the front desk and found us a room but it was not the room we reserved. Needless to say we got off to a very bad start. I found the hotel to be kind of shabby. However the bathrooms were very clean. The beds only had bottom sheets and no top sheets with a very heavy comforter. This made sleeping quite warm, it is June after all. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Go stay at a Comfort Suite where you get free WiFi a frig and free breakfast.

Not worth it

I was very excited about staying here. The pictures made the hotel look very elegant. The rooms are very roomy but when asked about a rollaway we were told that Fire Marshall would not allow and then next time they were out of them. Also, the beds have a down comforter encased in sheet like material but there is no top sheet and the rooms stay hot even at the coolest setting. I also wondered how many other people had slept under that comforter without a benefit of a wash. I just really don't think they would clean it each time. Maybe but I just doubt it. And the simplest things that you expect in a hotel like a coffee maker were not included.

Sleepless in Mineapolis.

The hotel public areas, staff, and cleanliness were the redeeming features. The quality of our room was something else. Our first night we were kept awake by the voices and crying in the room next to us. The second night the noise changed to coughing all night long. The beds were uncomfortable and had only a down comforter that was too hot. The bathroom had one towel bar...on the INSIDE of the shower door. Towels got wet when showering and inconvenient to get to when not. The small make-up mirror attached to the wall would have been useful had it been capable of extending out and was too low even for someone 5'3". The only settee/couch was narrow and hard. Luxury hotel----NOT.

Looks beautiful, but difficult to get sleep

Hotel was beautiful on arrival;staff was professional and personable. The bottom line was to get some sleep, and I was able to sleep around 4 hours. You could hear all ongoings in the adjacent room-even a woman just clearing her throat. You can hear conversations in the hallway, plus the sound of shutting doorlocks. I may not place all the blame on the hotel, but maybe a couple of signs to remind guests to be a little more considerate to others. I would attend a wedding reception or other function there, but would not stay there again if I wanted to get some rest.

Good service, but slightly tired decor

This Sofitel appears to be mostly used by businessman, so it felt slightly incongruous to be staying alone there, to visit friends in the area. It is very clean, with friendly, efficient staff. The only downsides are the dated, tired-looking decor in the breakfast restaurant and hotel bar, and my room's bed had only a very warm comforter, which proved to be far too hot for a late Spring visit - although I should have asked for a top-sheet and blanket instead. Oh, and for a luxury-level hotel, they should really be providing wi-fi for free, rather than charging $8 per day for access.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Don't bother fighting the traffic and crowds to eat dinner at a chain restaurant in the nearby Mall of America. Go to downtown Minneapolis and enjoy one of the several excellent independent places near the Nicollet Mall.

Just OK Hotel

This hotel was nice but I would have expected more from a four star one. Complimentary breakfast would have been nice (had good breakfasts from less costly hotels). The hotel was clean and looked very nice, but again, other less costly hotels offered as much if not more amenities.

Great value for the price

Just an overnight and the service was very good at the desk. The rooms are a little dated and could use new carpeting, but this was a huge value for the price.

Back in the Minne Apple

Lived in the TC for 5 years, went back to visit friends and see the peak fall colors. Chose Sofitel, because I had been to a couple of events there, and I really didn't want to stay Downtown. Went to Aamodt's Farm in Stillwater - great date, had reservations to ride a hot air balloon, but it was cancelled because of the weather. Instead we did wine tasting and walked around the vineyard. The hotel was convenient/close for our ride on 494 East. The hotel is kind of swanky in a retro way. I think $100 a night was a good value, wouldn't want to pay any more than that. I went out to an early breakfast, came back around 1pm and my bed still wasn't made! I had to ask for someone to come clean the room. I wasn't going to be back until very late and didn't want to take the chance that it would not be cleaned before the staff went home. The valet closes at 10pm. The front desk staff did not tell me that it was complimentary, which was annoying. The restaurant and bar closed early, because there was a wedding party in the hotel. The bar has no set hours they just kind of open and close whenever.

Coulda been a contenda

I would like to be writing a glowing review for this hotel. But I can't because in the course of a weekend stay the television didn't work, was fixed by a technician (albeit very friendly) that had to come in and out three times at nine thirty at night, then didn't work again in the morning causing a room move to a smaller room with a working TV, followed by staff doing a tear-down of banquet tables at 10:30 at night that sounded like freight trains being coupled at a Chicago train yard as the workers slammed the folded long tables onto flatbed carts. Sofitl staff worked diligently to fix these things. They were apologetic, quick to offer to make things right, and took steps like offering a free dinner for our trouble. Bottom line-we were left wondering if this was just a bad run of luck for the hotel or, whether they are so good at making things right because they have to do it all the time! We might stay there again but there are so many other options in Minneapolis......
