Aesthetic dreams come true with eye candy galore
Relish in superior comfort oozing with French style at Sofitel Minneapolis in the heart of Bloomington. Art lovers go mad for the glass lobby where gorgeous crown-style chandeliers hover over constellations of chairs and rugs in popsicle colors. The beauty continues in the 282 luxurious rooms with rain showers and pristine European bedding. The award-winning restaurant, Chez Colette, presents exquisite French dishes and an impeccable selection of wines.
Highlights

  • Snag the rouge button-tucked booth at Chez Colette for a dose of privacy and great people watching
  • Stop by Le Bar for a chic aperitif (like a Kir Royale) and some light fare
  • Minutes from the Mall of America, Fortune 500 companies and the MSP Airport
  • Venture to downtown Minneapolis for cultural intrigue and shopping -- including the Guthrie Theatre, Nicollet Mall and Walker Art Center
Rooms

The 282 guest rooms and suites are bathed in European ornamentation with contemporary flair. The palate is near-edible with arresting rouge, grape, gold and blonde colored decor. The Sofitel Minneapolis incorporates elegance with walk-in rain showers, plasma TVs and high-speed wireless Internet access (fees apply). Request an interior view to see the buzz and beauty of the lobby from above.

Features

The Sofitel Minneapolis is loaded with beauty marks, and signature Sofitel art de vivre. Goodies include a gift shop, free private parking and overnight shoe shine (fees apply). Families will appreciate the babysitting services, available upon request (fees apply). Guests also enjoy complimentary access to the on-site fitness center complete with cardio equipment and free weights.

Dining

With an atmosphere more convivial than romantic, French cuisine dominates at Chez Colette. Evocative of pre-1920s Parisian brasseries, the menu includes coq au vin, steak frites, creme brulee and baked baguettes. Don't forget to order the French onion soup -- it's been the top request for 30 years. Chez Colette is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room service featuring hot dishes and cold snacks is also available daily.

Good service, but slightly tired decor

This Sofitel appears to be mostly used by businessman, so it felt slightly incongruous to be staying alone there, to visit friends in the area. It is very clean, with friendly, efficient staff. The only downsides are the dated, tired-looking decor in the breakfast restaurant and hotel bar, and my room's bed had only a very warm comforter, which proved to be far too hot for a late Spring visit - although I should have asked for a top-sheet and blanket instead. Oh, and for a luxury-level hotel, they should really be providing wi-fi for free, rather than charging $8 per day for access.

Don't bother fighting the traffic and crowds to eat dinner at a chain restaurant in the nearby Mall of America. Go to downtown Minneapolis and enjoy one of the several excellent independent places near the Nicollet Mall.

One of our favorite hotels

Great hotel that is very pet friendly and with no additional fees! The staff is amazing and nice. The pastry shop is a real treat for a hotel. I enjoy this hotel with a little taste of Europe.

Best Hotel I've stayed at in Minneapolis

High level of attention to guests. Watched a manager touching base out in the lobby with each guest coming from their rooms for a couple of hours one morning. The food is great. Ordered an ounce of Wisconsin cheese for almost nothing ion the bar and it came with bread, butter, grapes, strawberries.

Great night's sleep

We were in town to celebrate our anniversary and to go for dinner, a concert and spend the night. Our experience was very good if we don't include the key card that didn't work, the rather 'cool' desk clerk, and the credit card that didn't seem to be able to make work. (We called the credit card company and they said there shouldn't have been a problem.) Very spacious and comfortable room. VERY comfortable bed. Loved the down duvet! Lots of pillows. Very quiet. The staff in the bar and restaurant were very nice and friendly. There is no shopping within walking distance. Convenient if you're moving around by car.

My review of Sofitel Minneapolis

The Sofitel was an amazing experience. The night I arrived I checked in after 11pm. The staff was friendly and helpful. Limited room service was available after midnight for which I was very grateful after a long day of flying. I loved the bathroom, with all the little extras, including a bathrobe. The bed was so comfortable that I had trouble sleeping when I returned home. I wish I could have stayed a few more nights! The only downside was the difficulty of accessing the hotel from the freeway.Overall, an excellent get away.

The French restaurant in the hotel was superb. The bakery had the most delightful French pastries that were a great surprise to take to my family on Christmas morning. (The restaurant and bakery were open on Christmas.)

Elegance amid the average...

This hotel is a wonderful stay, both in quiet and in amenities. The food is exquisite...and while it is a bit more than average fare in cost, it is superb in taste and presentation. The staff bends over backwards to be helpful and are most accomodating. The location makes for perfecting shopping, eating, and just traveling in the area. I've stayed twice and each time is consistent in quality and enjoyment. I highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful through out. Rooms have slowly become date, but still maintain the class and elegance originally intended. Staff is very friendly and professional. Quiet and the food is excellent. A wonderful experience for a business travelor or romantic getaway. The room is relaxing and inviting.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Great place for a weekend of multiple Twin City destinations. Close to shopping and central enough to make both St. Paul and Minneapolis reasonable drives.
