Just what we were looking for
Good location just off the I-94. Visiting family at Alex Tech/Community College. Ate at Doolittle's across the street (phenomenal chicken). Went to a Alexandria Blizzard hockey game (lots of fun). Water pressure was poor, otherwise the room was what we expected, affordable and just OK.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Doolittle's Woodfire Grill was great. All three of out party thought so. Two of us had spit-roasted chicken and each said it was possibly the best chicken either of us had ever had.

AmericInn Alexandria
This is a basic hotel, nothing fancy. Staff was friendly. On our second day at the hotel we slept in and left the room around 10:45 am. The hotel refused to service the room and said we stayed in too late. We have been in hotels around the world and have never encountered a hotel that didn't service a room after 10:45 am. In most situations the rooms aren't serviced until afternoon.

Both Target (right next to motel) and Super Wal-Mart (across the highway) very convenient. When visiting the nearby lakes, you are always in need of something you forgot to bring.

Very decent place to stay!
My friend and I planned a girls overnight trip, primarily to visit the Carlos Creek Winery. We had a very pleasant stay- the staff was friendly, the room was very comfortable and quiet. The continental breakfast was decent. We also liked the hot tub and pool area. The only things that we noticed was that some of the mechanical things seemed out of date-- the card reader took several tries before we could get into the room (each time) and we couldn't figure out how the lights worked- turned out nothing was plugged in. The shower was also outdated- low water pressure, not very nice showerhead. But-- it was quiet, clean and friendly and I would consider staying there again. The only thing really missing was a workout room!

We would have arrived earlier. Checkin was at 3:00, so we arrived around then. But by the time we freshened up and left for the winery, we found that the little shops downtown all closed at 5 pm and were closed on Sundays. So- next time we would definitely plan to arrive earlier so that we can do some shopping. It's a very cute town!
