Its Mid MI, what do you expect
There are no 4 star hotels in Mid MI. Need to know that they do not clean your room daily upfront. The rooms were a good sized, liked the long table in the living area. They did not have basic complementary things like lotion and I had to ask for clean towels and fresh soap. Staff was very friendly. I would go back now that I know that you have to ask for clean sheets daily and if I can get the rate I got for my last night it is an excellent value. they need to have a better advertised rates and discounts..

Filthy floors
I was barefoot in the room and my feet actually were black from walking on the floor. I took a damp washcloth and rubbed it a few times on the floor, it was covered with dirt. The A/C didn't work right, it was impossible to maintain a temperature. There are no King size beds in any rooms, a suite is considered a hide-a-bed in the main room and a queen in the bedroom.

Clean and gets the job done
We needed a place to stay in East Lansing for a wedding. The Candlewood Suites are close, clean and affordable. Although pretty plain and normal, the people who worked there were very nice and accommodating.

Glad we chose to stay here
We arrived early because we were attending a graduation and needed to get ready. The manager graciously accomodated our request. The room was clean and while we didn't need the kitchen it would have come in handy if we had. The hotel was really close to the Breslin Center where the graduation was held. The morning of our check-out the front desk staff printed a list of restuarants with directions. We recommend this hotel!

The service in the hotel is good.
I watched TV when I was in the hotel. The hotel has a food store in the lobby and you can borrow movies from the front table. It's very convinient.

A Nice Surprise
Mine was a simple overnight. I needed a place to stay after seeing an evening performance at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Michigan State University. The room was large for a single and I enjoyed having my own microwave, stove, sink and kitchen. Another nice surprise was the "Cupboard," a room accessible by one's room key containing all kinds of foods and provisions (I picked up some soup and an orange juice) and it works on the honor system -- just pick your items and check off their amounts on a slip that gets automatically billed to your room. The staff was very friendly. I interacted with the afternoon, overnight and morning staff and they were uniformly cheerful and helpful. One oddity (and not even a complaint) is that Internet access is not wireless. You must request an ethernet cable from the front desk. There are only about 16" long and not very many ones are available that do not have a broken connector on one end or both. But one was available and the network connection worked flawlessly (no signup sheet required). Dining (other than in-room) is not provided directly; however, guests are provided with a ticket into the University Club next door for breakfast. The hotel clerk told me it was $4.95 although I did not take advantage of it so I cannot comment further. East Lansing is a long trip for me so I don't know if or when I'll be back but if I return I will put Candlewood Suites at the top of my list. Hope this helps.

Perfect Escape
I chose Candlewood Suites for a date night and I couldn't be happier with the results. The Queen Studio Suite met all of our cooking and relaxing needs. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful.

Excellent quality
Great location about a 6 minute drive away from Breslin Center. The University Club next door (staying at Candlewood gets you a temporary membership) offers great dining, spectacular all-you-can-eat breakfast, and excellent exercise center with pool, saunas, and a jaccuzi. The location is quiet and scenic, surrounded by MSU fields and a golf course. Nonetheless, during one of the days there was an event going on at the golf course - starting early and lasting thoughout the day, a golf course employee kept yelling instructions through a bullhorn. The suite had a complete kitchenette, with a full-size fridge (great for leftovers), a huge microwave, a two-burner electric stove, a full set of eating utensils, cups, glasses, and plates, a teapot, and a toaster. It also included salt and pepper shakers, sugar, coffee, and teas. The bed was comfortable, but we did not get to test the pull-out sofa. The suite came with a DVD/VCR combo in the "living room" but not in the bedroom. The front desk offered a good selection of DVDs and tapes to loan. The towels weren't very soft, but rather scratchy. Surprisingly, there were no extra toilet paper rolls in the bathroom. Don't be caught off-guard!

The honor-code sundry and snack shop is open 24 hours. You can pay in cash or charge to the room. The shop has dry snacks, drinks, cereals, ice cream, frozen meals, yogurt, newspapers, as well as personal care items (toothpaste, Scope, etc.) The prices are reasonable for a hotel.
