From every angle, a unique, conveniently located downtown Detroit hotel

The Milner, built in 1917 as the Henry Clay Hotel, is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Detroit. Earle Milner acquired the property partly because of its unique triangular "Flat Iron" style architecture. Milner also was attracted by the property's great location in the heart of Detroit, which remains an asset. The Milner's clean, affordable rooms offer attractive amenities such as free Internet access and a complimentary continental breakfast.

Highlights

  • Classic, centrally located hotel in the heart of downtown Detroit, within easy reach of major destinations
  • Free high-speed Internet access
  • Complimentary continental breakfast
  • Access to nearby YMCA fitness center and swimming pool

Rooms

Guests enjoy clean, comfortable guest rooms with attractive amenities, including free high-speed Internet, cable television, coffee maker, and iron with ironing board. A mini-fridge and microwave are available upon request. One-bedroom suites include a full kitchen with stove, microwave, and full-sized refrigerator.

Features

Guests appreciate that the Milner is only steps from Comerica Park, Ford Field, major theaters and concert halls, and numerous restaurants and nightclubs. The hotel is also convenient to the Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Convention Center, Renaissance Center, and Greektown Casino.

The adage "a bed and a bath for a buck and a half" -- popularized by Milner Hotels in the early 20th century – is now part of history. The Milner's current president, E. Ronald Milner, however, continues his father Earle's commitment to provide clean and comfortable accommodations at affordable rates.

Milner Detroit Hotel - old & shabby

Do not stay here unless you really, really have to. The mattress was obviously very old - - it kind of sloped and you could feel springs. There were cracks all over the bathroom and a used washcloth hung over the rod when I first walked in. There was only one roll of toilet paper with less than 1/4 of the roll left and no replacement rolls. But the very worst part was no ability to control the heat and the room was freezing! Other than the sheets there was no blanket on the bed, just the spread - - so I asked at the front desk for an extra blanket since my room was so cold and after three hours a security guard brought up not a blanket - but a second spread - which I took because I was so cold! Also, there was no bed side lamp, so the only way to have any light without using the off/on switch at the side of the door into the room - was to put on the television. The elevator from the lobby was weirdly shaped and seemed to strain as it moved. Also, the walls were thin and I could hear the couple next door talking. One of the worst places ive ever stayed - - although I will admit that the staff was nice.

An Experience

When we got there our room was about 98 degrees and no air conditioning. The host at the front desk worked diligently to get us another room which he did. The hotel is 100 years old and you can tell it, updating the place is a little behind schedule. As far as the location and the price it was fantastic. For me and my son it was fine. If you have particulars about hotels, then this is not the place for you.

Choose elsewhere

rooms either have no heat or to much heat. Breakfast was stale muffins or attempt to make waffles with a unfunctional waffle iron. first room given was a double bed, when booked a queen. 10th floor room, elevator broke at one point.... old rikety thing. no hotel parking just overall seemed skeevy - other places within walking distance with better amenities

average price for sub-par place

location was the only bonus of this place, but with tons of other places to stay within walking distance i guess this is nothing major. no heat in room, no wifi, you have to pay for parking at a theater across the road... Locks on doors didnt work. Equally priced hotels get you much much more. This place is not worth looking at, stay anywhere else.

No heat

The room was clean and the location was nice but we did not have any heat in our room and it was freezing in there; we asked twice about it and was told that we would have heat soon but we never did. Also, when we checked in the clerk did not look to see that we had booked through Orbitz then charged me again for the room. He said he had to get his manager to fix it; I checked the next morning and was told I was all set but I'm still waiting to see if I was charged twice.

never again

The room was freezing cold when I got there, so I told the desk clerk, and he said hed get maintenance on it. Guy said they were on a timer and would come on soon. So I went out to dinner, when I got back still no heat, the guy gave me a blanket, told me the timer stuff again. called desk again and said no heat, said they'd work to fix it, but it was like he didn't really care. I was using the shower on hot all the way and ran the hairdryer to get any heat in the room. They never even offered me another room, or seemed to care wasted my money-wont book w/you again and will tell others to use millner. it was 45 degrees windy as heck and raining sideways outside, cold. Not much better inside. Worst experience ever. Would have been better of in a tent and sleeping bag in grand circus park with the other occupy detroit anti wall street demonstrators. the place stunk, customer service samed. never again. im upset with substandard

Good Location

The hotel was really close to Ford Field and Comerica park. Hotel was vintage and historical which was a nice chsnge of pace. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. It was easy to get to the hotel, it was right off the interstate and you didnt have to go to far into downtown Detroit to get to it. I would recomend this hotel to any one wanting to go to a Detroit Lions or Tigers game, i will be staying at this hotel again when i come back for another sporting event.
