OK

Roberts Riverwalk is an OK hotel. It's set in a nice historic building right by the water; the walk to the city is not far and is a scenic one. The rooms themselves were nice, although several amenities (such as a coffee machine and iron) were not included. It's a good hotel if you are on a tighter budget, however it was a little far from the party in Hart Plaza I spent most of my time in. Will probably book something closer to the downtown area on my next trip there.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Don't let the cab drivers know you're from out of town. They will try to charge you more and not run the meter if you're coming from downtown back to the hotel, especially if it's in the middle of the night.

Call Ahead.

The hotel was cool, but we had issues from the beginning. We arrived at the hotel around 11:45 to find that they had been sold out for over two months and that the web site(YOU) had sold us a room that wasn't available. To their credit, they worked with us to get us a room, but we had to settle for a queen, rather than a king room that I paid for. Once again, not their fault, (YOURS). The hotel seemed to run on a low budget, it didn't have tissues in the room, or shampoo and when we called for some, we were told they were out. The staff was very friendly though. A mixed experience overall.

Poorly run historic hotel...

They did not have our room reserved to start because we went through O****z. So we did not get the room we paid for. Then the key was missing for the safe and they said there was nothing they could do. There was no refrigerator in the room and barely enough outlets for a laptop and cell phone. The next morning there was no hot water so we could not shower. That night we went out and the hotel would only shuttle downtown but not back. By time we got back our room keys would not work and we had to wait 35 minutes to get it fixed because there was only one person on staff! Parking lot was small and littered with potholes. There is no parking at all if there is an event and the doors and parking lot gates never get locked as they advertise. Thin blankets, poor amenities, no pool, did not even have shampoo in the room, restaurant only had maybe 7 dishes on the entire menu, and the price we paid for what we got was unacceptable. The ONLY thing good about the hotel was some of the hotel architecture, but that was not even worth it in most of the building.

Opportunity for improvement

The location was great. It was a like a secret getaway in Downtown Detroit. I was there for a retreat and shared a room with others. There were not enough resources at check in. It would not have been an issue if I did not have to wait for the online booking vendor to be contacted by phone, despite reserving weeks in advance and having my confirmation with me. My room had a hole in the closet door. There were not enough wash clothes for all room occupants. Hand towels were brought as an alternative, after requesting twice on the first day. No wash clothes were provided after cleaning on day two. Requested at front desk but never received. There were no buttons on the phone or extensions provided to reach the front desk or house keeping; had to dial the main number.

Good Value, Could be better with a few improvements

We rented a room for a three-day stay around the Christmas holiday. There was a disconnect between the hotel and the online service where I made the reservation, so it took us quite a while to get into our room. Finally, we got into our room - Queen size non-river view. We were disappointed to not get a river front room and the room was small. The bathroom shower curtain had mold on it and there weren't enough towels. The lack of service could have been a result of it being a holiday weekend, so they could have been short staffed. We had to get new towels from the front desk each day. The workout room is spacious and there could be additional items placed in it. Good cardio equipment, but more free weights needed. We did feel safe at the hotel, but would have liked the room to be better taken care of. The people working at the hotel were kind and helpful.

Lions Trip

My wife and I stayed here for a Lions night game. The area immediately by the hotel is fine, but I would have been very nervous to walk between there and the downtown area at night. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel shows signs of its age, but overall it is great for the price.

outstanding staff need more help

A beautiful historic building on Detroit's riverwalk. Limited holiday staff. Minor annoyances with room-missing light bulb broken luggage rack cleaning suspect Accommodating friendly overworked staff makes this worth a second chance

Not worth it!

I thought this was going to be a nice stay but it wasn't much of a nice stay. The room was nice enough just a few things here and there that could have been changed. The first problem I had was that when I asked for some extra towels no one got back to me and I never received any extra towels. The next day I was headed to a convention in town and they had a shuttle that would take you but I decided to drive myself, there was another couple there waiting on the shuttle to take them to the same place I was going so the staff there asked me if I would take them with me, two people who I have never met! I just kept thinking to myself that they have a shuttle and it was there to take guests where they needed to be and I don't work here. Also the shower didn't drain properly, and when I alerted hotel staff they responded, oh I know the maintenance guy must not have fixed it yet. I was furious, they put me in a room that they knew the shower wasn't draining properly and didn't put me into another room. I would never stay here again I would never recommend that anyone stay here and I hope they get bought out by someone who can properly run a hotel.
