What a Dump!

The first room we were given had a bullit hole in the front window, missing furniture(no chairs), no glasses. Staff was clueless where the missing were and offered a second "non smoking room" that smelt like an ashtray. Third room was OK & clean and complete.

The really ugly

Worst experience in a motel ever. It was about 15 degrees when you walk in. We went to turn on the t.v. And it didn't work. We called the front desk and it took them over an hour to switch our room, and we are the ones that had to ask. Once in the new room it was once again 15 degrees and smelled like smoke. It was 11pm by the time we got settled, we checked in at 8:30.

Just Fine

I have stayed at the Econo Lodge in South Portland many, many times over the past five years. It is never luxurious, but it is always comfortable and more than adequate. The staff are polite and available. The continental breakfast is mediocre. On this particular trip, the cable box in our room wasn't working. I mentioned it to the front desk and it was functional the next day. Also, the place seems to have undergone a face-lift recently - unfortunately, the bathrooms, always the most lack-luster part of the space, are not improved.

Not too bad

For the price I paid it was fairly accommodating. Room was neat and had a pretty new space heater. I couldn't get reception for any tv channels other than the news, but I had internet so it wasn't too much of a problem. All in all, not too bad.

Almost perfect for a weary traveler

Front desk personnel were young but knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The hotel was close to the airport and really close to the Maine Mall and lots of dining options. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The only knock was the poor selection for breakfast and the undrinkable coffee. Had to go to McD's for breakfast! But it was close!

Awful, a rip off

We were charged $150 for a hotel worth at most half that. Granted, it was a holiday weekend, but the accommodations were dreadful. The [...] photos were of ANOTHER Econolodge, not this one!! This place reminded me of a 1970s retreat center that has not been updated in 40 years. When we arrived we had to phone the receptionist in order for her to get to the reception desk! We requested a smoke-free room; our room reeked of stale smoke. Fortunately, they accommodated us with a different room. The rooms are small, with outdated furniture and beds. THe HVAC unit woke us up every time it came on during the night. The toilet seat was old with chipped paint all around the rim. The faucet leaked and dripped all night. Bottom line, I've stayed at many hotels in my life, this ranks close to the bottom. It's plain awful! Econolodge ought to be embarrassed having its name associated with this place, and for them to charge $150+ is simply outrageous. Don't even update the decor; burn the place down!
