The Higgins Beach Inn stands prominently on the right, at the bottom of the hill, the pride of Ocean Avenue. You are a mere block away from the breathtaking sights and sounds of white capped waves and the incredibly picturesque shore that extends from beautiful Higgins Beach. This three story colonial revival structure includes a common first floor with dining, and two floors above housing 21 sleeping rooms. The current innkeepers of almost 14 years have spent their busy tenure as owners striving to preserve the uncomplicated charm and history that warmly fogs this building. Their careful balance of historical respect for it's 1897 origin and the concerns of the present is remarkable. While each room and area is individually and tastefully adorned, much of the Inn's coordination relies on the age of computers. The lobby is a charming welcoming gateway to a large handsome stairway heading upstairs, the two adjacent dining rooms, and another area. This area features a cozy, comfortable sitting room with television, a quaint and quiet sun porch, and a sunny cocktail lounge that doubles as an ideal place for reading or leisurely conversation during it's off hours. Several of the rooms have connecting capability that allows for greater flexibility for family accommodations. The Inn's enviable location along Ocean Ave from Rte. 77 is nestled between glamorous Prout's Neck and the family friendly Crescent Beach State Park. Other beaches are very proximate, and among other activities available, many people enjoy the scenic coastal ride towards Fort Williams, another pretty park with a small beach and acres of nostalgia to walk and ponder. All cancellations are subject to a 25.00USD cancellation fee. arrival.

Higgins Beach Inn

Fits right in with the quite town of Scarborough. My girlfriend and I visited in early October when the weather was just amazing. It's located one block from the beach, has a friendly staff, and a dog on site. I love dogs, so I was showing all kinds of love to Cash. The room was fine, although you will occasionally hear running water from a neighboring room from time to time. We booked the shared bathroom option, which worked out just fine. Clean, no waiting. Kitchen/Dining and bar available. Also a comfy TV room and outside deck.

amazing!!!

very quite, not a touristy place..which is what my boyfriend and I were looking for. The staff was great, very helpful. The food was very good, you can eat out on the patio or in the dinning room. We had the room with the queen bed w/ bathroom, small, but we were hardly in the room, it was worth the little extra money for the bathroom attached. The beach is walking distance which is nice for a night stroll, or relaxing in the sun. My boyfriend and I plan on coming back in the near future and would recommend it to anyone!!!

Old-School Maine Beachy Charm

A friend and I spent two nights at the Higgins Beach Hotel over Memorial Day weekend. We loved being close to the beach and found it a quiet, restful place (though I imagine it might be busier as the season gets going). Breakfast was convenient and tasty, and the minestrone soup and meatball sandwich we had for dinner on the second night were delicious. We explored nearby Crescent Beach State Park (beautiful) and Portland Head Light (interesting) and went to the city a couple of times for the more gritty urban experience.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Try Local 188 in Portland for dinner-- creative cocktails, interesting food, lots of options. We liked the panfried gnocchi.

An antiquated beauty

We were at a perfect walking distance from the beach and was able to take their dog "Cash". The owners were very accomidating. The food in their restaurant was to perfection. Would definatly visit again.

An unexpected, outrageously good time

The first hint of what was to come was the comment by the proprietor about coming down for the free cocktail hour. What was also unexpected was the other guests that seemed synchronistically in tune with each other creating a roaring good time and festive yet thought provoking conversation ensued throughout the nite.
