Ideal location and simple charm

The city is extremely walkable, and the hotel is near many attractions. Staff was friendly and responsive. Bed was very ... comfortable, and turndown service was a nice surprise. The hotel is unique and had a lot of charm. Our only quibble with the hotel is that the decor is a bit dated.

I was in Portland for five days and rented a car for all five days. I only used it one day. It was easy to walk almost everywhere, and you can spend several days doing water-based tours and visiting the islands. If you plan to enjoy the coast and head to the parks in Maine, you'll need a car. If you're just visiting the city, skip the car.
