A reasonable choice

The hotel staff was friendly and efficient, and very prompt in providing the shuttle to and from the Amtrak station. The continental breakfast was nice, and we found the location just fine for walking around Portland. Although the room was small, it was clean and in good order.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

We wanted to visit Portland Head Lighthouse, and were told we could either hire a cab--which would be quite expensive--or take the trolley, which only has a ten-minute stop at Portland Head (out of an hour-and-a-half-tour). Instead, we walked to the harbor and signed up for a lighthouse cruise. It was the highlight of our trip.

If you are going for the marathon, it is at least 1/2 mile away. We noticed several other marathoners at the hotel.

We were going to walk the Old Port, then attend a concert at Civic Center. It was a great place for that. Also room was extremely clean.

Adequate hotel

Nothing special. The pool was an outdoor pool and wasn't open, much to my son's dismay. It was a non-smoking room, yet it smelled of smoke. But it was clean, and adequate, not exceptional.

It was convienant to my needs

I was here to visit with my son who was home on leave from Iraq. I was disappointed in the appearance of the hotel and pool, especially with all of the ads running on tv about LaQuinta Inns doing upgrades. This was very low in score compared to other places I have stayed at previously

LaQuinta-Portland

We only stayed one night. We were actually in town for all of about 18 hours. It wasn't a terrible location, it just was not as centrally located as the map had led us to believe. It was about a 30 minute walk to the Old Port district, which is a neat little area. Great restaurants and bars. Found a really good Grateful Dead cover band called A Band Beyond Description. The room was modest, but we felt it was a little overpriced for as far from the city center as it is. There are no real complaints about the room or the hotel beyond that. The staff was friendly enough, the room was clean enough, the parking was very convenient. If you are in town for a Red Sox Class AA baseball game (Portland is their home), this is THE place to stay. The ballpark is just around the corner.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

The Old Port district seems to be the place to be in Portland. Overlooking the river it is chock full of restaurants, bars and shopping.

Close to downtown with bargain pricing

Amazingly close to downtown and the concert we planned to attend. Better fit for my budget than staying at the mall and closer to where the action was for people that don't go mainly for the shopping. The rooms were small but the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Nice breakfast selections and eggs which is a real plus if you are eating low-carb. Trucks in the parking lot (?trash) woke me at 6:30am (only drawback).

Ordering takeout was a breeze; the front desk lady supplied numerous menus and it was delivered to our hotel room door after the concert.

Short visit, worth the stay

The experience at the hotel was pleasant. The staff was nice. I would have preferred that the bathroom sink be in the bathroom! I would definitely add more towels to the room.

Good price conveniently located.

Nice hotel. Ten to fifteen minutes to downtown Portland. It is relatively easy to find street park after 6 pm or on Sundays the whole day. During the day, Parking garage are not terribly expensive. The hotel has easy access to go South (Beach Parks) or North (Freeport).
