Good place to stay

It was a pleasant experience. We got in the city early in the morning. We were told that check in would be after one o'clock in the afternoon. It would leave us wandering around in town for 6 hours. After asking the clerck to please take us in, she did and we had a nice room to rest. Overall it was a pleasant place to stay, yummy breakfast.

Both Positive & Negative Aspects

Check-in fast and easy. Front-desk officials quite helpful for finding places to eat, etc. within Portland. It will be helpful for them to know or have resources concering getting to other areas in Maine. Having a GPS by the way is GREATLY helpful and quite a God-send in Maine, and when traveling in general! Except it may not understand traffic circles at all (which is what happened to me and the hotel desk official could not tell me really basic highway information). The TV remote did not work very well with the TV (difficult to get it to connect with the television)... The major issue and difficulty was that i was in a non-smoking room on a SMOKING floor, and the smoke invaded the room BIG-TIME! The rooms were fully booked so i could not be moved. I coughed a lot, had sore throat, and felt ill. This should NEVER be done. If there is not a way to TOTALLY isolate those who "smoke," then there must be NO SMOKING AT ALL in a hotel! Having the little breakfast set-up is lovely; however, it would actually be helpful if it went until 9.30 or 10 AM on Monday through Friday and until about 10:30 AM Saturday and Sunday. A really helpful thing was that when i asked for NO houskeeping service, that message was received and understood (i always just set things up the way needed and get a supply of coffees and wash-cloths/towels and remain self sufficient for the duration of my stay). The hotel is right near air-port and major locations, etc. in Portland area within easy access. Parking is very convenient. The bed is quite comfy and lots of nice fluffy pillows. I WOULD recommend the hotel IF/when the Smoking Invasion issue (which is SERIOUS) is solved.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to the Floating Restaurant! (It does not really "float." The boat juts out onto the water, but is ankered in concrete, so you don't get dizzy or sea-sick.) A little expensive; however WORTH it for one of your meals. So Splendid!

Different

I went out for great food. The room should have been cleaned from whomever left their mark on all the walls with their garbage. The trip was fun but the hotel room was not. The staff was great and concerned on my stay.

Good service and convenience

We visited Portland to look for a home to buy. We didn't have a car but Laquinta offered a shuttle to and from the airport, which was really convenient. Portland is extremely walkable, and although the hotel was on the edge of town it was really easy, without the kids with us, to get anywhere on the peninsula within 30 minutes. There is also a bus stop just a few blocks away to grab the Congress bus, which goes to the other end of the peninsula. The staff was very friendly and the rooms clean and quiet.

excellent room

Everything was very simple-check in no problem, check out no problem, and even though we left at 4:30 am we were offered complimentary coffee, juice, muffins, and much more...the staff was excellent and the location was superb-within 5 mins to downtown and airport!
