Very European Like Stay

Great little gem - if you like a classic 2 star Paris or London hotel... then this is it. I had to stay for an overnight and just needed simple clean safe accommodation. This exceeded my expectations - I had a single room with a private bath across the hall. Was not fancy, but was clean, comfortable and felt like I was in Europe 30 years ago. I had read a review somewhere that there were problems with parking - not my experience - it was great. Thank you!

Not for Everyone .....

....but I loved it! An old hotel, {the info in the room says the OLDEST in Portland} but well maintained. From the cozy lobby to the nicely decorated hall ways ans stairways, this is a "throwback" for sure, and I mean that in a good way. The room was clean, the linens and towels were fresh, just a pleasure for me. BUT, if you have issues with stairs (no elevators) and are prudish about big private baths and all, then think about it. My bath was an "external" bath, but private, just on the other side of the hall, sort of like a European style older hotel. There are shared baths too, and I think you can have private in room too, I did not but I was perfectly fine with it. Wife was not along on this trip, she may have felt differently. I will go back in a flash, enjoyed it.

Good deal

Very quaint, cozy hotel. Staff was lovely and accommodating. There was a description on the wall that said the hotel is over 100 years old and used to service people who took the rail back in the early 1900's. Pretty cool stuff and explains the feel of the hotel. The only weird thing was that my bathroom wasn't located in my room itself. Instead, I had a private locked bathroom a little down the hall. I honestly, didnt mind. I think it added to its charm and for the low price, it was worth it. At least for a day or two. Computer and printer can be used in the main lobby. And continental breakfast was very nice. Room was clean. Definitely worth it if you're looking for an inexpensive room that's not like the usual cheap gross hotel.

Small rooms, but good for the budget traveler

I was visiting Portland alone and on a budget. I had no plans on staying in the room more than to sleeping and showering. My room was tiny and I ended up with a private separate bathroom just a door away from my room. Staff cleaned the bathroom and made the bed every day while I was out. I stayed during off season, so I drove around, but it was a short walk if you didn't have a car. Parking was free and the lot behind the inn. Continental breakfast was nice, but nothing more than bagels, muffins, oranges/apples, and some yogurt in the fridge. I also noticed free cookies available the rest of the day. Coffee/tea/water was available all day it seems. Some reviewers mentioned a fridge/microwave in the rooms, but my room didn't have this. Window A/C/Heating unit worked fine for my room. The area around the inn had some homeless, but they didn't bother me.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

In the off season, it's easy to find parking around town, so you don't have to walk around. If I went in the spring or summer, I would've walked around more. The location is just a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the area of Congress Street with restaurants, bars, shops, museums, etc. It's also a short drive to Fort Williams and Head Lighthouse and Len Libby's Chocolate from Portland. This is a good city to explore alone if needed. Locals are friendly and city is safe.

Good stay

It was quite comfortable, just a little bit noisy because of the street.

Interesting Historical Hotel

Hotel was welcoming, friendly, and very comfortable. Only drawback, if you consider it so, is the steep, fairly narrow stairs to the rooms. A generous continental breakfast was included.

Straight Forward and enjoyable

* The room was perfectly clean and comfortable * I had the king room, which was great for 2 people and our dog...the fact that they allow small pets was a huge plus * Front desk staff were knowledgeable and friendly * Parking was close and convenient * The hotel was easy to get to I just needed a place for the night that was not too expensive. For less than $100, including everything, this place was perfect . The bed was comfortable and I really had no complaints. The steps are steep inside, and the halls are narrow, so I might not recommend anything off the 1st floor if either of these things would be an issue. Otherwise. Go for it.

Not your usual hotel

I enjoyed my stay. The victorian inn setting and decor were very appealing to me but it is very different from what some people would expect. For the price and location I thought it was an excellent value.

Nice Stay

The Inn was about a 10-15 minute walk from Downtown and all restaurants and bars. Room was clean and cozy with a cable TV. 5 minute cab ride from airport. Overall, it was a good stay and I would recommend it to anyone that is staying a night or two in Portland.
